What are the options besides Folfox & Folfiri (and Avastin) if KRAS-mutant?

My mom is Stage IV dx June 09 with mets to the liver, and did 4 treatments of Folfox (and Avastin some of the time) before finding that it was only keeping things stable & was not shrinking anything.

She is currently on Folfiri and will have her first followup scan to look at its effects in a few weeks. She also just found out that she is KRAS-mutant.

I am wondering, are there currently any other chemo regimes or other drugs available after Folfox & Folfiri for those who are KRAS-mutant?

Thanks,
Kelly

    I'm KRAS mutant, and i don't
I'm KRAS mutant, and i don't think there are any other options except clinical trials. Hopefully the Folfiri will work for her.

    Same thing with my husband.
Same thing with my husband. He did 6 treatments of Folfox (only one dose of Avastin due to severe side effect) only kept things stable with no shrinkage. He will be trying the Folfiri at the end of this month and is also KRAS-mutant.

I have asked this question before and the replys were clinical trials.

Please let me know about your moms follow-up scan and any information you get as to what might be next.

I do most of my posting on the caregiver site, I will also let you know what our oncologist says about what we will try after the Folfiri if there is no change.

    clinical trial
HI, I did the full folfox, then folfiri with Avastin. Each time it kept it at bay for about a year. I was told I could go back on either regimen but instead I'm starting a clinical trial at UCSF on Monday. Hopefully this will shrink or keep it at bay.

    Stable isn't BAD news
KRAS mutant tumors do not respond to 2 drugs (one family of drugs) but a study is being done, giving Erbitux to KRAS mutants along with another med to see if that allows the Erbitux to work.

Four treatments is not a whole lot out of 12.

    Hi jillpls
Can you give me the name/number of the trial. Any why you chose it. I am currently looking for a trial and could go to one in the UCSF area. If have been looking through all the trials listed at clinicaltials.gov. If you would like you can PM me with the information.

    Thank you very much,
    Susan

Trish, I will definitely keep you posted on what happens. Her next scan (the first with Folfiri) is in a few weeks. Thanks for writing!

Diane, you are right - stable isn't BAD, but the oncologist was not happy with the results at all.

We just keep praying for God to heal her. If you would, please keep my mom in your prayers, too :) Thanks!

not doing a clinical trial after all
    HI,
I was going to do a clinical trial at UCSF but Blue Cross denied it. So my onc put me on folfox with avastin but again Blue cross denied it. They said I can't have Avastin because I had progression on Xeloda with Avastin. So I"m just taking Folfox and fighting the insurance.
