I'm just getting involved with this and am looking for any help. My father originally diagnosed in 1996 with PC. He had testicles removed and radiation. PSA went to .001. In Oct 2004, his PSA started rising. Bone scan revealed nothing. Dr did freezing of prostate in Jan 2005. PSA kept going up. Another bone scan in Mar 2005 showed one mass in right hip. He again had radiation. PSA still going up. Bone scan in Aug 2005 showed numerous masses throughout body in his bones. PSA now at 76.7. Urologist sent him to oncologist. She started him on casadex. PSA still up. Changed to hydro cortoisone and ketoconazole. After three months, PSA up to 135.4. He has now taken two treatments of taxedure. PSA up to 170.9. Oncologist sent him to Duke University and dr there agreed with current treatment. He has no pain (all drs amazed at that) and still has his strength. He gets very depressed when PSA keeps going up. Oncologist is going to do another bone scan and PSA after two more chemo treatments. Has anyone ever had such a high PSA? I apologize for any misspelled words. Any words of encouragement I can pass on to him. He will be 78 in August and this is his only health problem. Thanks for any input.

    Morning Goatgirl,

I'm sorry to hear of your Father's rising PSA. My Father was probably about the same age when diagnosed and he will celebrate his 94th birthday this coming November. So, don't give up hope!!

I will check with Mom this weekend and try to find out what Drug Dad is on, I can't remember. I want to say it is Casodex, but am not sure.

Anyway, keep the faith and I will say a prayer for your Dad.

    Goatgirl,

I talked to Mom and the drug Dad has been on for several years is Casodex! I thought it was but was not sure.

Hope the current treatment your Dad is receiving is creating good results. I'll continue to keep him in my prayers. Please keep us posted.

Thanks, Roger, for the encouragement. Dad was on casodex, but it didn't help him. He has now had two rounds of taxeture and found out yesterday, his PSA is down to 137.2. It's still high, but at least it is coming down. Oncologist says she will do another bone scan soon. So far, he still hasn't had any "boney" pains. His spirits have lifted with just that drop in PSA. He also went yesterday and had a port put in. Oncologist told him he would be on taxeture "hopefully for years". Thanks again.
