Hi all. Well Scott came home Friday. He is on antibiotics and is taking meds for his neuropathy. Thanks for all your support. Of course, since he was feeling ok, he invited "the guys" over and started drinking last night. I was/am so angry with him!!! He says "he just wants to be one of the guys" when he feels ok. I am so upset today. I hardly slept last night for fear that the alcohol would interact with one of the many meds he is on. He is on the antibiotics and doesn't seem to get it through his thick skull that alcohol counters the effects of them. Then he complained this morning that he had diahrea all night!! Well DUH!! (ok now I sound like I'm 10 years old...lol). I told him last night if the cancer doesn't kill you, your wife will. I just don't understand what he is thinking. Does he realize the seriousness of this disease?!

Anyway, sorry for ranting. The computer screen is a blur from being overtired and I'm just trying to stay awake to make it through the day.

Prayers to all

Linda (Baltimore)

Hi Linda.

I can imagine what you are going through and the frustration. You are right of course that drinking is not going to help your husband but I can see it from his stand point....being one of the guys makes him feel normal and helps him to forget his illness. Not sensible of course but how many people react to life threatening illness. You must look after your self too. Try to get some rest and then try reasoning with him again....I am sure you let him know how it makes you so anxious to see him doing stuff that may impair his treatment. Good luck!

Hiya Linda---mere male speaking here gal-- the thought of mixing alcohol and meds. sends shivers up me! I agree with Ali, it is not the most sensible thing to do and lets hope the "hangover" from the session with the boys is his last. The problem with us males is we tend to want to retain that "macho, I can take it image!" The boys night out is probably Scott's way of dealing with --why me?
There are lots of things I did to forget--for a while anyway--my illness and Jen coulda beat the hell outa me. I really pissed her off sometimes and that was pretty selfish Don't be too hard on him Lisa---I am hoping, as you are, that this episode will be a one off event. Probably the worst thing could do is nag him about it. I would suggest that you could have a quiet talk with one of his close mates--someone you trust about looking out for him. Guys are funny creatures maybe they need to be better informed about Scott's illness and that Scott needs his mates for support but also to keep him being sensible about about drinking. Maybe they are unaware of the seriousness of his illness? I am sure they would look out for him if they did know--if not--then they are really not doing him any favours. For his sake Linda I hope this there will not be a repeat.
lotsa luv n huggs, kanga n Jen

Linda -

What more can I say? Ali and Kanga hit the nail on the proverbial head.

Try to restrain yourself from hitting Scott on his.

Talk to his buddies. Let them be boys. Let him "live". Trust his friends to help keep him in check and be easy on yourself.

Best regards

Hi Linda,

I think my wise chemo friends said it all. Just remember to take care of yourself!

Thinking of you,
