I, too, found out that I had cervical cancer in June of '03. I was prepared for a hysterectomy and when they opened me up, found that it had spread to my lymphnodes. I've completed radiation, and chemotherapy, and I also had the implants.
My legs aren't swolllen. I have however gained weight since I do not have the energy to exercise as I used to. If you are like me, you will no longer have a menstrual cycle. The radiation kills your ovaries. Your doctor should have explained this to you. Questions are going to come up. Do not hesitate to call your dr and get the answers that you need. This is such a difficult time for you and your questions are very important. I hope this is helpful to you. Take care.

Your story brought tears to my eyes when I read it. I as mentioned in the previous reply, I was diagnosed in 2002. A radical hysterectomy was discontinued after the cancer was discvored in my lymphnodes. I then began chemotherapy with external and internal radiation. After that I became incredibly sick because of bowel obstructions and radiation enteritis. I had a 2nd surgery and now have even more problems.

To make a long story short, I have recently developed lymphadema in my leg as well and gone through physical therapy, etc. I am still continuing to have problems daily and currently go to the hospital 2-3 times a week. I still have a uterus and cervix, but the doctors did remove my ovaries. I stopped having a period for a long time and recently started having one again. That's really fun with no ovaries! Anyways, feel free to ask any questions or if you just feel like talking, let me know. My other e-mail is Bon1978@aol.com.

Bon1978/ Hope you are doing well...What is lymphadema? I am scheduled to undergo radiation and chemo this week June 7, 04. I have Glassy-Cell Carcinoma/ Cervical Cancer. I had my hysterectomy on May 25th. When the doctor opened me up the tumor had came out of the cervix and attached itself to my bladder. My ovaries were removed however, everything else remains. I am only 29 yrs old, I have no children. What am I to expect with these treatments? My doctor indicated I would have a vaginal implant, as well, in 4-weeks. HELP! ~Brandy Green

I'm also a survivor of cervical cancer. I have had Lower limb Lymphadema from waist down. One thing I will warn you of. Mystery infections. Make sure you have antibiotics with you for when this will happen. I find that bad stress sometimes triggers the infection. I start with a bad headache, then my low back feels as if someone is breaking it. Then I get cold and can not get warm. The I have the chills. They say it is because of the lympadema.
I find that wearing my high compression tights help alot. They are made by Juzo.
