    Hi:
I had papillary carcinoma in which I had my entire thyroid, parathyroids, lymph nodes on left and right side, chest cavitiy scraped during my initial surgery.I have some enlarged lymph nodes after sugery as well. You need to feel these and note any changes to your drs. Some of my nodes are enlarged or appear enlarged due to scar tissue. Other times my lymph nodes appear swollen and sore when I have a sore throat or cold. Just make sure you feel the size, location and texture of the lymph nodes. Note any changes and call your dr. During a more recent surgery, my drs found some dead cancer tumors on my spine. But due to the M131 radiation treatments, the cancer was dead. Make sure you also note if you notice if you tire more quickly, hands/feet are always cold, and frequent sore throats. These are a few important things that you may not even notice but over a few months could be a signal that something is going on in your body.Remember you are the best person to tell your drs what is going on with your body. Finally, try to worry about the thyroid cancer. I have been treating and following my stage 3 thyroid cancer since I was 21 yrs old. I am now 37 yrs old. I try not to worry about the cancer or the cancer taking over my life. I believe that God has a plan. I might not like His plan or understand His plan, but one day I will come to understand His plan. IN my thoughts and prayers.

    Lymphoma and Thyroid cancer

Has anyone had Lymphoma with an 11 Q deletion and developed thyroid cancer as well?  My husband just went through six months of FCR and now they are looking at the thyroid because a couple of lumps in his neck did not respond to the FCR.  They are still large.  What next?

    Any similar experiences here?

Hi, I am new here. I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid cancer in 2012 and I had TT that year, which resulted in a paralyzed vocal chord that makes breathing difficult and my parathyroid glands were damaged too :(:(:( . Now my Thyroglobuline AB has been steadily going up in the past two years and my doctor is recommending Radioactive Iodine, but I am afraid about the potential side effects (loss of taste and capacity to produce saliva). On top of it for the past two months I've been feeling extremely tired, with frequent sore throat and pain in my (under ears) neck nodules ... Any similar experiences here? Your advise will be appreciated. Thanks, Monica

LYMPH NODE INVOLVEMENT AND THYROID CANCER
In 2004, I had the left side of my thyroid removed for susicious nodules. Initially, they said no cancer but had to wait for lab results. Lab results came back with microscopic pap thyroid cancer. I was told it was so small, no further treatment but that they would keep sending me for ultrasounds on right side. In 2009, they decided to do a need biopsy on nodules that developed on the right side. Again, surgery to remove the rest of thyroid. I also had infected lymph nodes that were taken out, so this time was sent for radioactive pill. My surgean said it is very common that when lymph nodes are involved you might have to come back a few times and get more lymph nodes removed. Needless to say,I guess the radioactive pill did not work, cause 6 months later another surgery to remove more nodes.

It has been 8 months since last surgery, and again my ultrasound is showing a few more nodes. The largest is 8mm. My endo did not want it biopsied again. He said most likely it is cancerous and it would be a waste because he does not want me to have more surgery right now because they are so small to be operated on, they are not visible with the naked eye and complications could arise with trying to remove them unless they get larger.

Needless to say, I have been in tears all day today. Stupid I know. I am so tired of being cut; however, I am more worried about jut "watching them". I am scheduled for another ultrasound end of August to see if any growth. My blood work came back 0 levels, but my blood work is always good. Anyone else going through all these surgeries and complications with thyroid cancer. Please respond. Sorry this is so long but would love to hear input from others.

    A year in

    Hey,

I have the same Pap Cancer with 8/10 lymph nodes taken all out in the first surgery. I also have Extranodal extension and BRAF which makes my cancer more aggressive. I am reaching my 1 year mark and hoping to have better bloodwork.

    Thanks,

    new enlarged lymph nodes

I was diagnosed with Stage 1 totally encapsulated Papillary Carcinoma and had a total thyroidectomy in January 2014.  After the removal I had the Radioactive Iodine treatment and since then we have done 3 full body scans - that always show normal and ultrasounds of the neck.  Last fall I had one lymph node that seems to be getting larger (4mm since surgery and is now 6mm).  My doc says we are going to rescan in 6 months, but I was wondering if anyone here was this far postop and had this happen.  Doc doesn't seem too cncerned, but I am finding that the size is really not close to normal.  The lymph nodes that were taken during the surgery were all negative for cancer.

    Ultrasound after Thyroidectomy

I just had my first neck ultrasound 3 months after total thyroidectomy. The result says,

No thyroid parenchyma is seen. No evident mass in its area.

Oval cervical lymph nodes w/ no calcification seen

Submandibular on the left with size 1.13 and 1.07 cm

Jugular chain on the right with size 1.27cm.

No other abnormal neck mass or evident cervical lymph nodes.

    Conclusion:

    Status Post Total Thyroidectomy

Cervical lymph nodes with benign features

Is this ok? Are these lymph nodes different from the nodules that can increase in size?

    Long term survivor

Hi. I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in June 1963 at age 6 and am still kicking? Thyroidectomy and direction on right side to remove lymph nodes Surgery was followed by RAI treatment. Hormone replacement included Proloid, Synthroid and now levothyroxine (generic). T4 and TSH tests every 6 months with little change to the dosage over the years. No sign of recurrence and otherwise very healthy. I avoid foods that can interfere with uptake of medicine and take itndaily about 1 hour before breakfast.

Not sure if any of this is helpful but rest assured that you can live a long and full life with this disease. Hope this gives you some comfort and insight.
