NED and I are still friends!

Cant beleive that I actually made it 6 months without getting a scan.  I was having a hard time waiting three months between them.  Good news!  Still NED!   HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I am laughing and crying at the same time.  Crazy the things this disease will do to you.  I am now 3 years and 4 months post diagnosis of cervical cancer (stage 2A with + lymph nodes and + pelvic wash) and 2 years and three months post surgery for recurrence in lung and abdominal wall.

I still have these intermittent abdominal pains that I am unsure what is causing them.  Oh, well.  If its not cancer than I can learn to live with it.  Small price to pay to keep on dancing with my NED.

Hugs and love to you all.  You all are and will always be in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope my story brings some hope to someone along the way.

I saw my oncologist today for my three month exam.  She said everything was great and I can get my port out.  I've been a little apprehensive about it but I think it's time.  I've had it for over three years.  I can always get another one if the need arises.  My son will be super excited.  He is always pushing on my port asking when it will be gone.  Maybe getting the port out will help him move on from the whole "my mom has cancer" experience.

Hugs to to you all.

I was apprehensive about not having my port anymore.  I waited a few months after my doc gave me the go ahead before I could bring myself to do it.  I hate to admit it but I was even a bit superstitious.  Then, like you, I decided if I need it again, they'll just have to put it back.  So far, so good.

CC how old is your son?  I think you are probably right about the port being removed will give him some peace of mind as well.

He is 10.  I also have a 7 year old girl and an 11(almost 12) year old girl.  The boy is the one is seems always preoccupied with my port.  I hear boys are more visual and can be disturbed by alterations in appearance more easily then girls.

I now have a port removal date, April 15.  does anyone know how this goes?  They say it's pretty easy but I keep worrying they are going to rip my vein to shreds trying to get this thing out.

CC, girls are probably a complete mystery to him so to have you and two sisters??  Ha!  I think you have compassionate young son who will make a wonderful partner someday.

I'm sorry I can't offer any assistance on the port removal, but I haven't heard about any horror stories - which is probably for the best.  I bet you will be out and wake up in a blink.  So happy for you.

It was easy.  I couldn't eat or drink after midnight which was the worst part of the whole thing.  Otherwise,  quick, easy and painless.  I'm so happy not to have to go for the flushes every six weeks.  It was a 30 minute drive to and from every time.  Plus, until I reach my deductible, it was 80$ a flush.  Didn't need the added expense either.  Glad to have it gone.  Im still a little sleepy and heavy from the meds they gave me(some sort of benzodiazepines and fentynol).  Might need a nap before the kids get home from school.  Hope all you ladies are doing well.  Hugs.

Haven't been here in a while, but wanted to check on my my survivor sisters.  So happy to read about all of the NEDs and port removals.  YEAH!!!  Let's keep kicking cancer's patooty. :)

I'm a bit bummed because I mixed up my last appointment date, so now I have to wait until the end of May for my last (God willing) 4 month checkup.  If still NED, then I will be on a 2x per year schedule....then yearly...then FREEDOM!!!  Staying positive and looking forward.

Hugs to all,

Fighting

It was out in a flash.  It was done at my dtr's office.  The nurse started an IV and put oxygen on me.  They gave me something to relax me and numbed the area.  I dozed off as he started the incision and woke to him closing it.  I was a little annoyed because I missed what came in between.  That part only took a few minutes and it was less than an hour (45 minutes,I think)  from when I went into the office till I was walking out the door.  My husband and I went for a late lunch afterwards to celebrate.

Oh good.  I'm glad it sounds easy.  I think I have to go to the hospital for mine.  I wish it could be as quick as yours but I have to fast and be there two hours before my appointment.  Ugg.  I'll be glad when it's done though.  I really am tired of the 6 week flush.  Thanks for sharing your experience.  It really does help settle my nerves.  Hugs.

Thanks CC, I get results of PET this Thursday...whatever the results are, I am scheduled to start chemo that day also...Taxotere this time, probably once a week. When I asked for how long...he said as long as my blood counts cooperate and my body can handle it, he was hoping for 3-4 months. I'm hoping the radiation at least shrunk down my spinal tumor so that it does not cause a problem.

This week I am taking three of my grandkids, one each day on special excursions! Today I had four year old over for afternoon and we built a tent in living room, watched the Muppet movie, took a nap, a walk, looked at flowers coming up in yard and had lunch too! It was delightful! Tomorrow I take my 14 year old grandson for lunch at the mall, then a surprise stop at the Lego store for him to pick out what he wants. Wednesday it will be my 16 year old grand daughter, and possibly her best friend for lunch and mani/ pedis. I won't even attempt to have the 1 1/2 year old myself because he's too heavy for me to lift and I can't keep up with him. I just wanted to make some special memories with them before I start chemo this time, I know my energy level will be low so it was important for me to plan fun activities with them.

Our vacation to Arizona was superb! We visited the Grand Canyon one day, a trip to Jerome, a private wine tour and tasting, jeeping around red rocks of Sedona, some shopping, fabulous food, breathtaking sunsets and sunrises and fun with two other couples that we are very close to. We celebrated our 42 anniversary there also. Our flight there and back was amazing, clear skies so we could see Rocky Mountain range over Colorado perfectly! We flew as guests on a friends private jet, so no airport hassles and we were treated like royalty, we also stayed in their beautiful Sedona home for the week. No matter what I have had to endure or what I am going to endure in the future, I have an amazing support system, and loving, kind, and unselfish friends and family. I am blessed beyond measure, so I will meditate on those blessings when I don't think I can keep going anymore. This vacation came at the right time for me, it helped me to clear my head and face the future with a renewed sense of hope.

my prayers are not without thought to the many cancer patients, and those otherwise suffering that do not have as much as I do, I pray for them to find hope and also for hope to find them, perhaps another will reach out to lend a hand. I am always aware of others around me, in such a technologically connected world, as humans we really are disconnected, so saying good morning to a stranger or sharing a smile, just something out of the ordinary can go a long way to stir up hope in the heart of someone. I pray I can give out to others even a fraction of what I have been the recipient of. I will always try to pay it forward.

Funbeadgirl,

you are beautiful!  And know there are many here that are praying for hope and health to find you too.  It sounds like a great vacation and some wonderful quality time with your family.

I hope your chemo goes smoothly and kills all those blasted cancer cells in your body.  Keep on being the wonderful you you are.  Hugs.

Congrats cc!!!! I just logged on and saw your wonderful news!! Plus getting your port out, too. The good news keeps coming. Getting the port out is no biggie, I had mine done in my surgeon's office with a shot to deaden the area & out she came!! I was apprehensive about having it removed too, but, you can always have another put in-though you're not going to need it!!

Girl, I will do a happy dance for you when I am not so sore. I've spent spring break with my grandgirls at the beach. Between the car ride & mattress I hurt, but it was worth it.

Happy Easter cc!! God bless you and your family!
