    Stomach

    Greetings,

My cancer was almost identical to yours. Same everything. The only difference is the age I was 60 at the time. I am now 62.

Everything was fine until I picked up something heavy. I now have this huge hernia bulging out where my stomach used to be.

I am also hypoglycemic as a side effect of not having a stomach

I'm really interested in this topic, too.

My mom (46) was diagnosed with stage iv cancer, too. It spread to the lymph nodes and the pancreas.
I wish I knew more about this cancer. Our family just found out this past week. i know it's probably a whole lot more scary for her, but I'm so scared I can't sleep.

doc said she has 1-2 years left.

Hello to all! Stay positive!! My husband is doing well and has been in chemo since august 2009. Already has in his body 60 cycles of chemotherapy. He was diagnosed with gastric cancer and mets to the liver. He is 33 now and he is a very strong man! I am so proud of him! He taught me how to fight in this life and how to be positive!

We live in Sag Harbor NY and we try to enjoy life everyday! now we are trying to get pregnant.. I know many of you and even myself will think that is creazy to add more stress in our lives but we have to keep living! this cancer cannot take all from us!

If you need any help send me a message and I am happy to let you know what are we doing to keep our body strong and keep beating cancer!

I am a mom with stomach cancer

I am 50 years old, and in November of 2012, I was diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer. I am a mom of 2 daughters, 31 and 24, and a grandmother of 2 granddaughters, 6 and 2. Everyone wishes they knew more about this devasting disease, and more, they want a cure. I know your mom is scared, because I am scared. It is not easy on anyone. Everyday I wake up, thanking God that I have another day. I have went through chemo, surgery, and now they are talking about a treatment called " flushing ". I did not know what stage until a couple of months ago. I am in stage 4. What treatments has your mother had ? How is she feeling daily ? I joined this network, because I feel the need to talk to others who are experiencing the same illness. I have the support of my husband and family, but sometimes you just need to reach out to others. G1G92, have faith and do not give up. If you ever need to talk, feel free to message me. We are a group of people who have to stick together. God bless

    I was diagnosed in June/July
I was diagnosed in June/July 2011 with stage IV stomach cancer, spread to my lymph, my omentum, and along the outsides of my bowels. I was only 32 (am 33 now). My only symptom was a long history of a "sensitive stomach" and then I got a horrible pain in my left side that led to my diagnosis. Since then I have done 11 rounds of chemo. For the most part I have been symptom free, other then as you say the symptoms from chemo themselves. A few weeks ago I did develop pain ascites (liquid buildup in the abdomen) but have had that drained & am back off any pain meds at the moment. Keep your spirits up, this is a horrible disease but it sounds like you mom is doing good at the moment & it's best to focus on that.

I detail a lot of my experience on my blog: http://hollymariehill.blogspot.com

    Would like to know more
Thank you for the positive comment. As you know, they are scarce and I had yet to find any 5+ year stage 4 survivors. Everyone tells me to stay off the internet because all I read is bad news and I am terrified. I was diagnosed in Sept. with stage 4 stomach cancer w/mets to the liver(substantial). I am on chemo and the first CT scan showed no change. I am on a macrobiotic diet and am a 62 year old formerly healthy female.
How is your husbad and is there a prognosis? Do they expect remisssion?

    Thanks

    Stage IV stomach cancer

My Mom has stage 4 stomach cancer that spread to the liver.  She had 70% of her stomach removed.  She just started her first round of chemo.  Please advise on any tips tricks or suggestions to fight this.  Thank you very much.

    Stage 4 Cancer

    Hello,

My wife has been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer as well.  It has spread to her colon and peritoneal as well.  The oncologist has mentioned clinical trials might be a good fit and we both think it is a good idea.  We are tentatively waiting for results to identify the cell and what chemo would best suit to fight the disease.  She is also 33 and I thought you could share some insight with us at your convenience.  Anything helps please!

    My husband was diagnosed
My husband was diagnosed stage 4 in april 2012. He is 46 and we have 4 children aged 14 to 4. He had a small 1.5cm junctional tumour but a laparoscopy revealed microscopic cancer cells in the peritoneal cavity which we were told was incurable so surgery was not an option. He was put om palliative Chemotherapy and given 1 to 2 years to live. We found it unacceptable that this could be the case considering it hadnt spread ro any other organs, We found another oncologist who didnt agree....my husband had 5 cycles of ECF and was then retested. The laparoscopy now showed the tumour had shrunk and returned negative gastric biopsies, the microscopic cells had also been neutralised, Now he is able to have the surgery that will save his life. My advice...never give up....chemo works wonders and if we'd never tried he would still be facing a life with no future. My best wishes to you.

    Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing!  Awesome story of hope.  My wife was recently diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and it too has spread to the peritoneal.  Do you happen to have any more advice for us?  Anythign would help and we greatly appreciate it.

    Sorry to hear that

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis.

Unfortunately, Holly passed away in May 2012.

Her blog still holds her experience with this awful disease, so you may want to check it out.

    Stomach cancer treatment symptoms
I am now two years out from gastrectomy, radiation and oxaliplatin infusions. I am still on every three week Herceptin infusions and oral Xeloda two out of three weeks. My main problems have been fatigue (for this, I have had to adjust my work schedule to 8 or fewer hours a day and give myself at least a half hour to rest in the evenings), nausea (prescription Zofran works well when nothing else does, but Altoids work surprisingly well, as does mint tea. Regularly scheduled small meals, including lots of fruit have kept me, well, regular), peripheral neuropathy (I have not yet figured out what to do about this yet. Do you have some ideas about it?) and, last but not least, chemobrain (I have just admitted to myself that I have it. Other than writing a lot of stuff down, I have not figured out yet what to do about. Will be starting a physical conditioning program next week, hoping that will help with the mental, as well). Congratulations on having knocked out a lymphoma!

    Stage 4 Stomach cancer

    I have a question,

I was diagnosed with Stage 2 cancer. Seven months later elevetated to stage 4. The surgeon performed laparoscopic surgery to remove half my stomach but he found two small cancer spots on each side of my peritoneum. now suggested if the odds are with me full stomach removal. I am not sold yet on the Idea of full gastrectomy. Did you have partial or full removal?

My wife is 7 months into chemo and feeling strong

Claire was diagnosed with Stage IV gastric cancer (linitas plastica) in October. The cancer had spread to her ovaries (which were removed) and to adjoining lymph nodes. She has been through 14 rounds of Ziv-aflibercept+mFOLFOX6  which is a trial in which we think she is getting the angiogenesis drug because of some of the side effects. She has been able to weather the chemo treatments fairly well and feels strong.

The doctor says that at some point she'll need to get off the oxaliplatin and move to a second line treatment, probably Paclitaxel and Ramucirumab.

Claire's blog is at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/teamcookie and we'd be happy to share knowledge and hope.

hi I am 35 just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and they say no surgery is availabl. My wife as I disagree and don't understand why....all my blood work is healthy, all test come back looking good. For the most part the Dr says I'm healthy. It took kaiser over 8 months to find out what was wrong with me. After every test out there They found cancer on my omentum and then in my stomach. After looking over the Internet when they remove the stomach they also remove the omentum so I am confused why they say nothing is available for me. i have kaiser coverage and they will not refer me the outside there network for a second opinio. Any advice would be greatly appreciate....

    Insurance Coverage Limitations

My wife and I are experiencing the same thing regarding in and out of network issues.  We have Blue Advantage Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO.  Her surgeon is on the plan but the hospitals he is affiliated are not; so we have to find an in network hospital and shop for another doctor; all this is maddening knowing how much we spend every month on the insurance.

We have insurance in USA and in Colombia; the one in Colombia is for all the best "private" hospitals and the Doctors are all on the plan.  However, the Oncologist we use here in Texas seems to be better than the Oncologist we use in Bogota.  So we are just now in week 1 of chemo (of 3 months) followed by surgery to remove rest of her stomach (80 percent removed in Colombia last year) and then we move on to radiation treatment.

We opted for Texas Oncology over MD Anderson as one of our friends is a national rep for chemo drugs and says our Doctor is one of the very best in class and practices in Dallas not Houston.

We are looking for practical ways of keeping my wife's weight on during this process.  So far she is tolerating the drugs very well but is very week following treatment.  Any advice on how to put weight on?

    Good luck

Hospital serves people are afraid to die. Doctor says you'll die after 4 years if you don't take medication, you will give your life to him, you have no way to know if it's true. Relax, enjoy life, make your body keeps normal. Any treatment will be harmful to you in long term, don't think they're candies, make sure they come from a good doctor knows what he's doing.
