BI-RADS 4B question

in Breast Cancer #1

Hello to you all,

I am new to this discussion board.  I do have a history of uterine adenocarcinoma 1B1 in 2014 and had a total hysterectomy without needing radiation or chemo.  I had a follow up mammogram/ultrasound today and was told the following:

SUSPICIOUS. BI-RADS Category 4B: Moderate

suspicion for malignancy.

 

I was just wondering if anyone had this as an initial assessment prior to a biopsy and then what your biopsy showed?  I am also trying to find out how common it is to find cancer after being told they were bi-rads 4b after having that follow up mammogram.  

 

I am hoping and praying you all are doing ok and hanging in there during this very challenging time in your life.  Thank you for reading my discussion.

    Well over 750 reads and not ONE person responding, not ONE person who has probably had this very issue? Unconscionable.

    I think that people selfishly decide to come in, glean what they need, take what they need, and sometimes leave those posting and occasionally floundering and in distress.

    Come on, people. Do better. Even if you don't have this same situation, give this person a greeting and a virtual "hug." Share what you HAVE.

    Did you ever find out?

    I read your post because I didn't know what B Rads are.   Since your post is old I hope everthing turned out ok.  I am also from the Uterine cancer board, as Harmony Groves is, and our board is so active.  I wonder why the other boards are so quiet.  I also wonder if you, Judemo have heard about Lynch Syndrome.  And I hope. your biopsies were benign.

    Hey, friend!

    I'm here because my oldest, dearest friend just had a very bad mammogram, and had the biopsy today. Bi Rad 5 indicates 95 percent or greater chance of chancer, so she is understandably worried. She is a stalwart and stoic person when it comes to her own health, so I'm doing what I can, eg, sending chocolate and checking in daily.

    Hi forherself!  Thanks for the reply.  Bi-rads 4B ended up being cancer for me.  I had invasive breast cancer and DCIS which is pre cancer.  I ended up having a double mastectomy and am currently healing from that surgery.  I have heard of Lynch Syndrome and understand it to be an inherited condition that increases your risk of certain cancers.  Do you have LS?  I had a robotic radical hysterectomy several years ago due to uterine cancer.  This cancer is no joke right!?!  Surprised  Thank you for your well wishes...that means a lot to me.  How are you?  How are you doing with your uterine cancer?

    Jude, the bi rads score is a category of dense breasret tissue. It has nothing to do with cancer. A 4 indicates very dense breasts - that's what I have too. My doctor recommended an ultrasound (ABUS) in addition to mammogram. I have clean mammograms every year since 2013, and in 2021, a new doc ordered an ABUS and found suspicious lump, 7mm, and turned out to be invasive breast cancer.

    Hi Thora, thanks for your reply and explanation. I found out the hard way about bi rad scores lol. Mine ended up being invasive carcinoma and I ended up having bilateral mastectomy and being told to take Tamoxifen for 5 years. How are you doing now?

    Hi Jude, thanks for your reply. Had lumpectomy 2 wks ago and sentinel lymph node biopsy. I refused radiation, and going straight to anti-hormone since my tumor is ER and PR positive and HER2 negative. I am scared of the side effect of aromatase inhibitors side effects. Hearing terrible things. I am 66 so, first choice is won't be tamoxifen. Waiting to hear back on my oncotype results before going to see oncologist. I also had a DCIS lumpectomy on my other breast in 2013 with no additional treatment.

    Do you mind sharing your journey?
