Seems some clever people have found two new salivary glands we didn't know we had. This would seem very relevent if you're just getting ready to start radiation. Make sure your doc is aware.

How weird this happens right after my initial rad consult and right before I start. You can read the clever people stuff here:

    It is amazing and how weird I

    It is amazing and how weird I should find out at this moment in time. For a living I drive odd things long distances by van. Stuff people need yesterday that is manufactured or stored in Cincinnati area (this is the warehouse capital of the USA due to its location) Anyhow, I had a mission to Kansas City and when midnite rolls around its my habit to tune the radio to the BBC World Service. Up comes a 1/2 hr on medical advances this week and first up is a radiation oncologist specializing in head and neck cancers talking about this.....weird!

    Maybe I'll get to be the 1st patient in the USA who will get zapped with the radition treatment by a doctor with this new knowledge. I'll certainly raise the issue with him.

    What did I miss?

    My rads start 1-7-21.  Learning that there are new glands, how does this help my doctor with his radiation?  I mean, if the rads kill salivary glands, then what do new ones do?  How do they avoid this death?

    Yeah, this is my assumption

    Yeah, this is my assumption and not fact, others may know more.

    So, you get your mask thing made on your first radiation appt. I have to get a special CT scan then clever people using science and math make the mask / sheild which is just for me and used during all rad treatments. My first rad appt will take a long time but after this mssk / sheild is made, each rad appt is a 5 minute thing. (again, this is for me, not necessarily for everyone). Anyhow, the mask sheild thing, I'm assuming, protects certain important bits in the head / mouth. Maybe some steps were taken to protect the previously known glands...I dont know. Maybe these newly discovered glands need to be taken into account. 

    Anyone feel free to add if you've already been through it as I have yet to begin.
