    Hi Alandon

My husband had neck radiation, and somewhere I had read that if you would take a towel frozen in a cooler to each radiation treatment ,and put it around your neck after treatment, it would prevent burns.Hubby did this every time, and it, or something worked. He had 30 some treatments, and never had burned skin at all.It would be worth a try anyway.I had luckily read this before he started treatment.

    My husband had severe burns

My husband had severe burns on his neck. He was given Lidocaine .5% topical spray (DIN 66123252) to use to reduce the pain. Then a cream - Cethaphil(DIN 02123280) to apply. Another over the counter cream was prescribed for the open sores and that was Intrasite Gel.  Using the two creams, his burns cleared up with no infection after 10 days. I was amazed at how quickly it cleared up.

    Skinburns

I got the burn cream they use in burn units, Silverdine?  Along with aloe from fridge.  No open sores, one of the best necks they had seen for 3rd degree burns.  Healed beautifull.  Inside was different but rinsed a lot with baking soda & warm water constantly.  Helped but still got thrush.  That is a real pain.  Antibiotics for that tho I hate taking them.  But you do what you can.  Still got a feeding tube when I could no longer eat let alone drink water but My treatments were waaaayyyymover done for what I had.  Good luck.

    Clean and Cream

I woke up one day after radiation finished, and my hair and nightdress were stuck in the ooze from open sores.

That was a really low point, I was in hysterics.

I went back to see the radiation nurse, who took me and my son to the back, and showed us how to clean it, then how to apply a cream, and dress it.

Took a week or so, but it healed as if there was never anything there.

Cleaner was Ultra Klenze - dont remember the cream, over that were flexible foam dressings that my son cut to shape, then a tubular bandage over the top.

It worked out great, kinda messed up the beautiful skin with a radical desection...

Stay on top of keeping it clean, its not actually dirty, that grey tinge is actually a burn, Ultra Klenze took that away. Once I had it clean, and healed, I made sure I kept a SPF of at least 50 on all the time

    Suzj So Glad

That you had a helpful nurse to teach you the best way to treat the area and very happy for you that you are all healed up and feeling much better and thankful that it healed as if there was never anything there. God Bless
