    Fairly soon, as I recall

I received a neck CT Scan before every radiation treatment and the radiation oncologist reviewed that day's scan with me every Thu.  By the 5th week there was no visibile sign of the tumor.  So I'd say by the 2nd week.  In my case that would've been after 9 treatments.

    My Tumor

I had 6 1/2 weeks of radiation with no chemo for treatment of stage 3 tonsilar cancer 5 years ago. Tumor was visible under my right chin before i satrted radiation and kept getting bigger for the 1st 4 weeks of treatment but suddenly began to shrink and by the time I finished radiation, it was much smaller than before treatment but still could feel the lump.

It took another couple of months after radiation for the tumor to completely disappear. 5 years later, I am doing great and the only reminder of cancer is some dry mouth and once in a blue moon neck spasms.

Good luck with your treatment and stay strong.

I had hpv 16 tonsil cancer

I had hpv 16 tonsil cancer and finished treatment in September last year. My tumor was on the right side and pretty much filled the whole side of my throat all the way out to the uvela. The tumor started to shrink by the second week and I would say within 5 weeks of my radiation treatment the tumor had completely disappeared. You can't even tell anything was ever there. My treatment plan consisted of 35 rads of 70 greys on right side and 54 on the left side as a precautionary measure. In addition, I did 3 high dose cisplatin treatments weeks 1, 4 and 7. I was one of the lucky ones and handled the treatment well with minimal side effects. Glad to hear you are doing well. It's always nice to hear folks like you are doing good 5 plus years out, especially someone that had the same cancer I had. Here's to many more years of good health. Take care.

    Thanks for your stories. We

Thanks for your stories. We are in week 4 of radiation. Second round Cisplatan was due last Friday but delayed due to WBC. Hoping to get it this Friday. Radiation Oncologist says tonsil tumor has shrunk a ton. Knot on neck looks the same to me. Just concerned. Your histories help.
