Topical chemo

in Anal Cancer #1

I was diagnosed with anal cancer Stage 1 after a colonoscopy.  I was initially told that I would need chemo/radiation from my GI and oncologist.  My care team also includes a colorectal surgeon.  He felt that in office and surgical removal was the answer.  Constant monitoring.   I had surgery in July and all 4 samples came back AIN I.  I have a new surgeon that has given me the option of monitoring and removal every 2 months or topical chemo.  My GP has recommended chemo to treat my condition aggressively while it's still early.  I see my oncologist tomorrow. I would appreciate your feedback.

    I'm sorry that you find yourself having to face this issue but be encouraged that you have caught this at an early stage. I wonder if you may be able to get some advice from someone who has experience with Anal Dysplasia, I know that the subject has been discussed here in the past and some reccomendations posted. (This, I believe, is what AIN 1 is classified as)

    Know that while the protocal treatment of chemo/radiation can be difficult (and the usual more aggressive treatment for anal cancer depending on stage)...it is a relatively short course as compared to many other cancers and has proven to be highly effective.
