Recovering from Liver transplant

After 13 years of battling HCC with 3 recurrences and 3 previous surgical treatments for tumors at varying times, I was listed for transplant in Sept., 2018. After 6 months of waiting I received an MELD exception for HCC which put me high on the list for transplant. I received the call on May 7, 2019 and received my new Liver on May 8, 2019. I am at home recovering and healing and feeling extremely fortunate to have received the true gift of life.  I know how difficult it is for so many on this board to have hope, but that is all that got me through those terrible recurrences and subsequent treatments. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers that you too will have your prayers of hope answered.

    Conratulations!

    You still have to 2x/2yrs;1x3yrs. So, how are you and how is recovered life? Do you have energy? Are you back at full time work? I envy you. A full transplant. What a wonderful idea.

    I have been through much since posting this originally. My Bile Duct keeps getting infected and I have had 3 stents put in and removed from it over the last 5 months. Waiting to have my last one removed in Dec. My biggest problem is lower than normal energy and shortness of breath. They discovered that my HCC had metasisized to my left lung and a stomach lymphnode and I went through 2 weeks of radiation. I will know the results in December, also. No, I do not work at this time. My strength is way down and I was a courier for one of the larger shipping companies making stops in businesses and residential applications. Fatigue is a constant reminder of what I have been putting my body through. I am now using insulin for the anti-rejection medicine induced diabetes. I am now down to only 21 pills a day! I have lost 52 pounds since transplant. Fortunatley, I have kept my sense of humor and gratitude throughout this process. Would I go through it again knowing what I know now? ABSOLUTELY; There are so many people who have it so much worse than me and may never get the opportunity for transplant. It is a solution to a problem that comes with its own challenges, but life is a challenge and I do not take it lightly. Why did I get so lucky? I may never know but I appreciate it more than words can say. Best of luck to all that are waiting, hoping and praying for their own transplant.
