Just like that...gone

Options

Im sure my bf wouldnt say it quite like that since he was the one with the tumor..but almost 7 months to the day, he is cancer free.  The emergency tracheostomy and feeding tube...gone.  The large tumor in his throat...gone.  There is still a small issue with swallowing but he's up to chicken, steamed veggies and cheesecake....hell he ate a hamburger and hotdog recently...not yet ready for steak and needs lots of sauce to help food go down but I think hes doing awesome.  Some foods taste funny and some too spicy, but that changes daily.  He did his swallow and jaw exercises faithfully. I believe he is where he is overall because he kept his water intake high,  walked every day, applied our skin treatment religiously and let me push him when needed.  Our lives are forever changed and will be on the lookout forever...but for now, we are very very happy.   We couldnt have done it without the help from all of our families and friends.  Good luck to all of you in whatever stage you are in.

    Wonderful News

It doesn't get any better than this to be cancer free and the trach and feeding tube gone and eating pretty well. I'm sure you folks vigilance of drinking, walking, and skin treatment etc. made a big difference plus the jaw and swallowing exercises. This is a great time and we celebrate N.E.D with you. May you continue to enjoy life and get back to a normal or what we call your "new normal" routine of life. God Bless and Congratulations.

    Sweet!

He'll be eating steak with no drink in no time (well, unless it's well done and like leather).  I actually tried to NOT drink anything during my lunch meals as "exercise" for my tongue and swallowing muscles...  I think it worked pretty well.  I can eat most anything without drinking anything if needed.  Though I prefer to wash most things down with an icy cold Budweiser given the choice!

Congrats and welcome to the other side!

Im glad things are good for you as well.  Im sure hed like a beer, but since that helped to create this mess, hes opted to stay away...at least for the first couple if years and then we can revisit.

    Another H&N succcess story!

    Pclark21st,

He is doing very well.  I also, drank 10 glasses of water a day or the past 6+ years.  Keep doing what you are doing.

Great to hear! It is amazing

Great to hear! It is amazing how fast this process can come and go. I have friends and relatives I may only see once a year or so and they had no idea I ever went through treatment. Good luck going forward.
