Almost three weeks since surgery
Had my surgery on April 3 and everything went well. My surgeon utilizeses the Da Vinci robot and it was quite intimidating being wheeled into the OR and seeing this massive machine in the corner...then it was sleepy time. I was originally supposed to have a partial nephrectomy, but because of the tumor size (larger than initially thought) and placement being so close to an artery, he decided to do a full neprectomy because he was not pleased with or convinced the remaining kidney would be completely functional. Still only had 5 small incisions and one 5 or 6 inch incision near my navel that the kidney was taken through. I was in the hospital for two days, the pain was controlled pretty well and the only lingering effect is a very numb left buttock and leg, which is improving. Funnily, the one pain concern i had was the whole catheter thing, which turned out to be a piece of cake! I Had my follow up on April 19 and the Dr. gave me the all clear and i will go back for a CT scan and bloodwork in 9 months. The only thing left is getting myself healthy and preparing for the future. Thanks to everyone here for the advice, support, and comforting words. You all are the best!
