Sorry you are having these issues.  I dealt with cysts and endometriosis for many years before my diagnosis of ovarian cancer.  I have since learned that those cysts were likely due to hormone imbalances and the drugs and hormones my doctors used to address them probably only made things worse in the long run.  Based on your familiy history, you should probably be tested to see if you are BRCA positive.  This is a mutation that increases the risks of breast and ovarian cancer.  That information might help you decide how to proceed. 

Knowing what I do now, I would have taken a holistic approach to my cysts, had I know of this option when I was dealing with them.  A naturopath or functional medicine doctor would be the type of practitioner to guide you in this.  They could also help you with getting pregnant, if you are in that position again.  Treating these issues with hormones just further compromises your health.

I found out I had endometriosis when I had surgery to remove one ovary.  I had problems for the next 5 years, visiting my doctor often, taking birth control pills, getting Depo-provera injections to resolve the cysts.  My doctor always measured my CA-125 and it was always normal.  Then, for five years, I had no other problems with cysts.  I think it may have been because I switched and stared eating organic foods, although my diet was still not healthy as I still ate a lot of sugar, carbs and processed foods.  Then, 10 years after I had the first ovary removed, I was diagnosed wtih ovarian cancer.  I did conventional treatment for the cancer, surgery and chemotherapy, but I also incorporated a number of integrative treatments under the guidance of a naturopath.  I also visited a hospital in Mexico for two weeks of integrative treatments, like IV vitamin C, leatrile, IV vitamin K, nutiritonal IVs,ozone therapy,  many, many supplements, and I changed my diet drastically.  I have been in remission for almost 8 years now, but still follow a very clean diet and lifestyle to prevent a recurrance.

When I had my first sugery, to remove the one ovary, my doctor recommended I have a full hysterectomy, to avoid other problems later on.  I didn't want to go through menopause at that point, so opted to have only the one ovary removed.  I found out what he meant about other problems later on.  But all is well now and I'm healthier than I was before.
