in Breast Cancer #1

I am a prostate cancer survivor for the last 8 years. My wife has just been diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma of the right breast. 

She is really scared. It is now my turn to take care of her. WE have been married for the last 38 years.  We live in the New York area and are looking for the best surgeons.

She will have on Wednesday a MRI to evaluate the extent of the spread.

    Both Spouses with Cancer

     

    Four years before I was diagnosed with breast cancer my husband had been diagnosed with colon cancer. We definitely received an education on a subject we had hoped not to study. We learned a whole new vocabulary along with it ( staging, chemo drugs etc.) Our primary care physician referred us to a wonderful  oncologist. Then when I got breast cancer there was no panic about who to consult we knew right where to go.

        My husband had more to do in the caregiver department than I did. He had to empty surgical drains, clean up vomit, etc. All this while dealing with our high school senior and our college sophmore. We got through some awful times and so will you. We have recently celebrated our 30th anniversary. Please keep us posted on how things go as this journey begins.

    I'm so sorry you and your wife have to go through this. Our stories are so similar it's uncanny. I had a mastectomy for invasive ductal/papilliary carcinoma this past September. My husband had prostate cancer about 5 years ago. We've been married 40 years. So far so good for both of us. I pray the same for you and your wife. Please keep us updated.

    IT IS WONDERFUL YOUR TOGETHER....

    Many times partners dont understand what the other has to endure in this fight against cancer.  So by you both to either have had or having together will help you take this awful predicament your in and turn it around to a postive outcomes like in emphathy, stronger bonds, common goals.  I pray you will soon look back and celebrate you both fought hard together and found peace with hit adn found the daily little silver linings in it.  Like sunny days adn little walks.  A funny show with a bowl of watermelon.

    So true

    You are so right, Annie. My husband and I have a much stronger bond with each other. He was such a huge help and comfort to me when I was dx and after surgery.

    You are both blessed to have each other.  My advice is to find the best cancer hospital that you can get to. Good luck!

    Hello, We got the results of

    Hello, We got the results of the MRI.  So far, the cancer seems not to have spread to the lymph nodes. We consulted three surgeons and finally decided to go with Hiram Cody who is with Memorlal Sloan Ketering. The churgery is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6.

    Thank God no spread to the lymph.  Prayers continue to go up for healing and postive outcomes.
