Elevated CA125 and Ovarian Mass

in Ovarian Cancer #1

I am a breast cancer survivor diagnosed in 2015 with grade 3 DCIS and Paget's.   Did mastectomies and moved on.  I am negative for genetic mutations of significance.

Ended up in the emergency room from extraordinary pelvic pain and cramping on Jan5th.   They did a CT and saw evidence of what they thought was a ruptured ovarian cyst...but the CT did not get good view of the ovary.   I am age 49 and have regular periods ranging from 24-42 days...but had not bled in about 3 months.  I figured it was perimenopause.   I have been in a lot of pain...and went to followup with my gynocologist.

Her ultrasound showed a 5cm cyst with some solid components. It is also stuck to my rectum.  She ran CA125 came in at 65 and I was gushing blood at the time. I have been refered to a Gyn/Onc.  That doctor did another CA125 which is now 115. (taken 2 days after the end of my period)  For some background....I do indeed have endometriosis.   Gyn/Onc also did a eterine biopsy which kept pulling out blood clots...she had to repeat the test 3 times.   (ouch).  I am assuming that my utuerine biopsy was not normal.   I would get from the clots it is adenomyosis or Fibroids.   I really haven't had any recent issues with bleeding.   I did have some post-coital bleeding for awhile...maybe a year ago.   My pap was normal...but they are making me wait to talk to doctor about the other tests.   I am beside myself with worry.  I have an MRI scheduled on Friday.   Another appt with Gyn/Onc on Monday.   Surgery on Wednesday.   ugh.

 

I know that endometriosis can raise CA125.   How suspicious is a 115 CA125?

    lessharp, I am sorry to hear

    lessharp, I am sorry to hear everything you have been through.  You are working with the type of doctor you need to be - a gynecologic oncologist, which is good.  Your worrying is completely understandable.  I don't know about endometriosis raising a CA125.  

    Try to take a breath.  What kind of surgery are you having?

    I think initially a

    I think initially a laproscopic, then sample for biopsy.    If is is cancer I will have to have a laparotomy cause it will all come out.   I just can't believe I am having to go through all this again.   I am one of six children....of 5 girls, I am the youngest and only one with cancer.     Now possibly two primaries.

    MRI today

    I am getting an MRI today.   A small token of good news is my Pap, HPV and uterine biopsy were all normal.   My uterus is in a lot of pain though....I'm sure that is related to my endometriosis and lack of menstruation for 2.5 months.   This last period was excrutiating and when she pressed on my utuerus it was extremely sore.   That's what prompted the uterine biopsy.   Still praying that this is benign...and that the MRI gives a good indication of what we are dealing with.

    Surgery Update

    Out of surgery....home... and tumor was BENIGN! Having to possibly face cancer again had me on my knees. Ovarian mass was 8cm and all the signs of cancer. Echoes, separation, solid component, fluid in abdomen and tumor marker was almost 4times higher + a personal history of breast cancer!   I know my oncologist must have been stunned.  Excruciating pain was my ovary twisted 3x around. I am so humbled by those who prayed....God has heard! Thank you Lord, Jesus Christ! Right now I am basking in all the love and prayers sent...Thank you!
