Ready to Rock and Roll - operation over

Well, I don't even expect anyone to comment on this, feel I should post so that there is a record of how crazy good this has been.  Certainly feel that there must be something in all the kind wishes and moral support I have been lent and sent this past week from the people here and family and friends.  I had much trepidation going into this, more so than any operation I have ever had before.  I was quite anxious. 

My surgeon is suppose to be very good, according to the nurses here,  it turns out he is married to the aneathatist. There were about 6 other people in the operating theatre, quite the show.   I am in no way gloating, I thought this would be a much harder recovery that it has been.  I do want to ensure that people see that it can be an ok thing. 

 

Arrivied at 11am on Thursday 9th, November. 

1pm Surgery

5pm Recovery

6pm Up to my room 

7pm Dinner with soup, lamb chops, veg and jelly. Husband had to feed me.

8pm Aneasthetic drugs started to wear off and a bit of pain and discomfort. 

Overnigth 9pm - 2pm on 10th November.  A bit uncomfortable, not moving, breakfast, porrigde, bagel and salmon, yoghurt and fruit, lunch, sandwhiches and lentil soup and fruit.   3 wallks up and down hallway with the kids, hardest part is getting out of bed and a shower.  Manage to blow dry half my hair. 

2 pm  Starting to feel quite ok   Off the tramadol and only on panadol. 

5pm  Dinner - fish and veg, creme brulee.   Got one really annoying lure out that was taped to back of hand.  Watched X Factor and Graham Norton on the TV with my husband - normal Friday night.

9pm Bed - restful night, not fully asleep, but I don't sleep a lot anyway. 

Saturday, 1th November 6am  Woken to remove catheter - didn't feel a thing.  Much more mobile.  Feel more clear headed.  Catheter was very convenient. Glad I didn't have to get up for that 24 hours to use the loo. 

8 am Surgeorn visited - can go home today if I like, opted for tomorrow.  : - )  .  Health insurance will pay for 6 nights, so I might as well get 3. Have a beautiful view of Mt Eden and the tourist here in Auckland and the sunset is spectacular.  Besides they bring you tea in bed, hot lavendar towels to freshen up and the newspaper. 

10 am Paid the surgeon's bill was on the email! lol and having a nice lie down. Have been able to cough, sneeze, blow nose, taking deep breaths.   The wounds are 5 in number and all relattively small, all stiches are internal and knots are buried, covered with steri strips.  No drain. Wounds not causing me any issues.   20% of kidney removed, get the pathology in a few weeks time.  Tummy is swollen. Not telling anyone it looks pretty similar to any other day, but it is quite big.  Soft though. 

 

Just been delivered a nice plunger coffee and a muffin for morning tea.  Hopeing that and the prune juice will help along the poop I need to do before leaving.   Have been passing ladylike amounts of gass. TMI

I am been so very fortunate, low blood pressure coming out of surgery but not enough that I felt unwell, no nausea, no fever.  Deep breaths a little difficult and lots of referrred pain to shoulders and neck for 24 hours which the nurses have keep hot pads on which seems to works really well.  No adverse drug reactions.    I am sore and a bit stiff.  Have been told by kidney is like a ripe tomato and not to over do it.   

Thank you to everyone who lent support and advice.  I am looking forward to getting home to my own bed and family.   I am so very happy to report a good, almost unbelievable result.   Fingers crossed the pathology report will be just a pleasing.
