Need a Little Help

Well, I was really trying to put on my big girl pants this time but I am such a worrier.  My husband had his second set of scans after his surgery on Monday.  His first scans in July were clear and also done on a Monday.  The results were available on Wednesday evening through the patient portal for those.  Does that mean they should have posted last night this time as well?  I am concerned that it's bad news since it wasn't put online.  Although, we weren't given any exact date or time that they would be available.  Also, last time, he had a PET/CT scan and this time, he had a CT scan and chest xray.  They were done at the same hospital, just in a different section there.  Would that make any difference?

Do you guys find that the results post as varying lengths of time?  Do they post bad news through the patient portals?

    From my experience, the time you need to wait for scan results depend only on one thing - current workload of the radiologist. Takes longer if too much work for him.

    For example, once he received CT scan description the next day, and once it took 4-5 days. So it doesn't say anything.

    And typically health related bad news are announced asap, good news can wait :-)

    I've had results from scans

    I've had results from scans show up the same day, the next day and up to a week later.  It all depends on how many reports the radiologist has to wade through to get to your husband's files.

    I agree with the others that I wouldn't worry yet that it hasn't been posted to the portal.  I would give it a couple more days.  It could just be a workload issue.  Some facilities won't post them to the portal until the doctor has reviewed them.  He could have extra busy or out of town.  I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

    I don't want to add to your worries, but is he seeing someone with a lot of experience with RCC?  While some patients have gotten PET scans, it is not the norm for RCC.  The standard is chest/abdomen/pelvis CT scans.  Chest xrays can miss small nodules.

    He had a few CT scans with and without contrast and chest xrays prior to the PET/CT scan and surgery.  We were told by another source to ask for a PET scan as it would show any cellular activity.  The doctor agreed to do it for that set of scans.  Isn't a PET/CT scan a combination of the two?  I may be mistaken about that.

    In my case when they did a pet scan they also did a ct scan at the same time and machine, the difference is that you dont get the contrast for the ct scan since they already juiced you up with the pet scan juice. Good luck

    Thanks guys for helping to ease my nerves a bit.

    The results showed up in the patient portal through the night and the CT scan says No Evidence of Residual/Recurrent Disease.

    I guess that makes him a NERD!!

    Also, the chest xray says No Acute Disease.  I think that's a good thing, isn't it?

    I ask for a CD

    I always ask for CD of my PET/CT scan.  It includes the (Windows) software used to look at all the imagery including a 3D viewer of the PET scan.

    I can pick it up within an hour of the scan.  If I wait 24 hours to pick it up, the radiologist's report is included.
