Hi All,

 

This forum has been a wealth of information -- I just had a robotic partial nephrectomy of my left kidney and a 2.2 cm mass was removed.  

 

It was graded pT1A Nx Mn/A and ISUP Nucleoar Grade 2. 

It was the only tumor they found on the scans and the margins were clean.

 

I have been reading alot about the codes, PT1A seems to be promising, but i do not understand why no code for NX and M? Is that normal? I am worried about spread, and that seems like important information or am I wrong?

 

I am on day 4 of post-op and my follow-up isn't for three weeks -- so my mind is a bit racing.  However, I am walking around and eating now so that is a good sign, with no side effects from the surgery so far except pain. I had no symptoms of the tumor before hand and it was an incidental finding.  

 

Thoughts?

    From what I remember, pt-1 is the size of the primary tumor... your 1 is good, it means the smallest size... the N indicates involvement of reginal lymph nodes, in your

    case it says Nx  which means reginal lymph nodes were not assessed. Likely because none were removed to biopsy. Not the least  bit unusual, with a primary tumor of grade 1, unless the close by lymph nodes are enlarged,or diseased looking, they do not routinely take them.  the Mn/A deals with how many distant sites were found of your Renal Cell Carcinoma.   You state that the margins were clear... so it means none of the actual tumor was in the fat, or fascia... it was all contained.  No distant metastisis are found... which if the margins are clear would be expected.

    You should heal well, and be well, but do remember, with the several types of Renal Cell Carcinoma,  clear cell, scarmatoid , or chromophobe or papilary 1 or 2,  kidney cancer can and does for many return... sometimes years later.  Keep watch.... there is protocol for follow ups, be reassured that you are among the graded group that has an excellent chance of no reoccurance at all.  

    Now, I am no expert, and you will hopefully have an answer from someone else that speaks better and clearer than I do...  I simply want to reassure you that you are in a good spot.  You found this group, and that alone shows you are on a good track...   My best to you

    Yes most of these buggers are found incidently. Make sure you don't rush your recovery. 

    I also used ice and a lumbar wrap to hold those sore muscles. It helped for getting up, sitting up and walking. 

    Write down your questions for your surgeon to discuss with you, but Pamstayner, you did a great job of explaining.

    Now try really, really hard not to project into the future with worry. You'll only use up more energy you need for LIVING and recovering.

    Thank you Pam and Jan for your responses.  I appreciate the time and it certainly helps me out.  I'm relatively young for this (34) so of course im worried about the long term effects.  I hope you all have a great weekend.

    Do you know if it is common

    Do you know if it is common to lose appetite after the surgery? Im post op day 7, and i still feel like my insides are swollen. I am not hungry at all. Im pretty sure most of the gas has already left my body and im walking around alot. My pain levels are managable by tyneol.  Is that normal?

    I left hospital on my day seven with very little appetite.  I was eating small amounts that was being handed to me  but was certainty not ever felt Hunger. Several times I can remember thinking I can’t eat this at all but I did try as I know it is important to keep some fuel going

     

    My surgeon even  warned me about not trying to eat too much too soon before I was discharged.

    Almost three weeks later i can feel it coming back.  The last three to four days were the first time I was able to eat full plates like prior op.

    I followed the advice here which was to drink and drink  and that certainly helped in the first two weeks

    I had zero appetite for at least a week if not longer but made myself eat soft boiled eggs and toast, or some chicken broth.

    Very normal

    I had no appetite and lost a few pounds in that first couple of weeks after surgery.  I'm sorry to report, the appetite will return.  Laughing
