"Stars"

Open Question:

What are these "star ratings" on posts now ? Are they from CSN, or added by the writer ?  I see them occassionally "backfitted" on to older posts, that did not have them when originally submitted.

I find them tasteless and inapproppriate myself, a  gimick.

    OK....

I guess I answered my own question....there it is !    Such a waste of software development time. I hope the feature is deleted.

    Agree

Max, I agree and hope they are removed soon.  Not appropriate on a site such as this.

Unless some pruning is going on...

What would be their purpose? We do not choose the subject matter when new posters arrive. And absolutely spot-on information (i.e.truth) may not sit well with some, not being what they wanted to hear. Easy down-rating would then occur.

    stars

I didn't really noticed them until I read this post. I can't see any reason for a rating on these kinds of posts.  A post could be useless to the first 50 people that read it but for the 51st person it was the most vaulable piece of information in the world. Does that mean the post was worthless. Not at all and especially not true for that 51st person who read it.

    Thumbs up!

I agree that any form of popularity rating is inappropriate here. As we all well know, lymphoma is a galaxy of different types, presentations, treatment modalities and outcomes. Patients come to this forum seeking answers and support tailored to their individual needs. General information is already widely available elsewhere.

I certainly hope this rating system can be removed - and if not, that it will not end up defeating the particular purpose of this forum, which has become so useful to so many.

    Me too!

I agree that the rating system is inappropriate for this forum. This is not a frivolous social media site. This is a support group for cancer survivors, their families, and caregivers.

No one should be put in a position of judging the value of another's contribution.

    Other Board

The guys at the Prostate Board also all expressed dislike of the rating feature.  I hope it never returns. Thanks to all who expressed their views; apparantly the Moderators were indeed listening.

This is very "random," PBL, but on the submarine I was nicknamed Hawkeye (from the MASH TV character):  Regarded as the best at my job, but a **** and a guy who would never reenlist.  I walked away from a $27,000 bonus check the day I got out.  They were right on both assessments !

    Random indeed!

Just paying tribute to one of your many talents... Glad I nailed it though - I did get my kicks out of those M*A*S*H antics. Hawkeye Pierce was one of my favorite TV characters.
