Recently Diagnosed

I am new to this site and really gratefully that I found it.  All you ladies have given me strength and courage for the road I have ahead.

I had one day of spotting and the next day was in my dctor's office for  a pap test and my doctor advised  I would have to have a pelvic and internal ultrasound before seeing the GYN.  Had the appt with the GYN who scheduled me for a hysteroscopy.  I got the phone call two weeks ago with the pathology report.  Said I had papillary and mixed cell cancer.  The report indicates could be in ovaries and fallopian tubes.  I have my appointment with the surgeon/oncologist this coming Tuesday.  My surgery will take place at a major cancer medical center.

Since that phone call I have gone  through research, the horrible statistics for this type of cancer and at one point thought should I even go to the surgeon.  When I got on this site and read what all of you have gone through, and such words of encouragement and hope, it is helping me with this diagnosis.

What is frightening to me the most, is what the dr will find when he operates, if it has advanced further into other organs.  I am thinking about what chemo will be like.  I have always  been the back bone of my family, worked and raised my sons.  Their father has passed away 5 years.   I had thyroid cancer over 20 years ago when my sons were young.  Now my sons are grown, one is married the other is starting his last year of college.  I told them they found cancer in one of my biopsies, they do not know the kind of cancer I have.

I am in Education, and starting up for school.  My principal is aware of my diagnosis, and will support me. These last couple of days I have felt so good.  The hysteroscopy took some of my energy and my bleeding has now slowed down from the procedure. I think of I have a ticking time bomb inside of me.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, strength and words of support.  I hope to be as brave as all of you and appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thank you.

Dear hopeful, try to take a breath.  You are in the land of the great unknown and it is the scariest place in the world.  This is a step by step process and the first thing to do is find out what is going on.  Hopefully you are working with a gynecologic oncologist.  They specialize in below the belt cancers and will know exactly what they are doing.

After they figure out what is really going on, it really is only after surgery can they tell what is there, they will make a plan and you will work that plan.  Don't worry about that part yet - we are here and have gone through what you are facing.

You are not alone.  If you need something to help with your anxiety then don't hesitate to ask.  This is a crazy time for sure.

    Hopeful

Welcome to the club no one wants to join.  You have found a good place to come to.  The ladies here are knowledgeable, great listeners, and very willing to share,  1st of all take everything one step at a time.  Waiting is so hard.  2nd, dont listen to Dr. Google to much.  A lot of the statistics are out of date and you are a statistic of one.  Everyone is different and unique.

I was in education, teacher, for 40 years when I retired.  My co workers and students were the best support system anyone could have.  You can do this.  You will amaze yourself with how atrong you wil be.

    Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann

    Hopeful56, you have chosen a

Hopeful56, you have chosen a great screen name. Try your best to stay hopeful! Surgery and treatment are no fun but they are do-able. You've experienced cancer before and made it through. You can do it again. They are much better at managing the side effects from chemo and radiation now. It is nothing like you may have experienced 20 years ago. Find an experienced gyn-onc and surround yourself with a caring medical team that you trust. They are the experts and will help make sure that you get through treatments as painlessly as possible. Keep us updated on how you are doing and feel free to ask any questions. We are here to help in any way we can. Kim

Hi.  My name is Staci and I

Hi.  My name is Staci and I was just diagnosed with uterine cancer two days ago.  It all started with a pelvic sonogram that revealed a possible problem, so I had a D&C and two polpys were removed that were originally believed to be benign, but unfortunately I just got the news that abnormal cells were found and they refered to this as a sarcoma.  I was in shock and outright asked if I was being told I had cancer.  I was told it was early stage cancer, but would need a hysterectomy and hopefully no further treatment, but I am now being referrred to a GYN/oncologist, who I will be seeing the beginning of September.  I am in total shock and am extremely upset since I thought once the polpys were removed I would be fine, but obviously not  While I was told the cancer was found early, there are no guarantees I will be okay until I have surgery and my cancer is staged.  I already have a severe anxiety disorder and this news is not helping me one bit.  Anyway, I am a newbie to this site just like yourself and read your post, so I thought I would respond and reach out to you.  I wish you luck in your journey to getting healthy and hope to hear back from you.

    update

Thank you for all your comments and support.

I had my hysterectomy this Wednesday and recovering at home.  I was discharged the next day.  I was able to have the robotic procedure.  So far my sentinel nodes were clear,  I will get the full pathology report in 3 weeks when I go back for my post op.  I am so glad to get this part done and get it over with.

All of you ladies have given me true inspiration and strength to not have to face this alone.

Thank you for your words of encouragement and sharing your experiences.  I am so glad to have found this site and such a great support group.

My prayers to each and every one of you.

To Hopeful56, I was just diagnosed with serous uterine cancer in June and had my hysterectomy last Friday.  I also was able to have it robotically.  I felt that this site was so helpful and members so encouraging.  I just retired from teaching last year, so I don't have to deal with the beginning of the school year.  I am praying that you hear good news when you go back for your appointment.

    Hopeful56 and Blessings52,

    Hopeful56 and Blessings52,

Just wanted to welcome you both to the board. Glad you found us and so sorry you needed to!

Hopeful, do your best to get up and walk around as much as possible. It is amazing how much that helps you build up your strength. Most of us felt much better sometime around the end of week 3 post surgery. There is a post where we talked about the post surgery healing but I couldn't find it.

Ladies, please come back and let us know how you are doing and what your pathology reports reveal. Whatever the news, we will be here with you for any additional treatments that are necessary. Please come back and let us know. And, ask us anything. Nothing is off limits and someone will most likely have an answer for you.

    Love and Hugs,

    Cindi
