Vulvectomy

HI there!  I am 47 years old.  I went for my annual pap in November, my GYN saw something she didn't like and she did a punch biopsy.  That was NOT fun!  Anyway, she called with the diagnosis of cancer a few days later and referred me to a GYN oncologist.  I went for the appointment and we scheduled a partial vulvectomy.  Removed part of the outer labia.  All of my margins were clear.  I recovered and went on with my life.  I just went back for my 6 month checkup feeling really good about things.  My oncologist saw something again.  She did another punch biopsy, this time of my clitoris.  This was one of the most painful things I've ever experiened.  The shot to numb it brought tears instantly.  I think it was part pain, part scared!  Anyway, she just called and it is cancer.  I have an appointment on August 2nd to discuss options.  I have a bad feeling she's going to want to do a full vulvectomy.  I am scared about this and I wanted to hear from anyone else who has had this done.  Please let me know that everything is going to be okay!  Also, I have been divorced a long time and started dating a wonderful man a year ago.  He is very understanding but this is really really hard!  Please let me know if you've been through this!!!

    stellar, you could try

stellar, you could try sending them a private message.  If you click on their name under their picture it takes you to their page - and I think it might be at the bottom - where is says "Send this user a message".  I think most of us have some email associated with our profile, so it would alert them that they have a message from CSN.

Stella, I have sent you a private message.  I won't hijack your thread, but please know that you are not alone.  Vulvar cancer is so uncommon that it accounts for fewer than 6% of gynecologic cancer cases.

    Much love,

    me

    You are not alone.

Last July I had a radical vulvectomy and my lymph nodes removed, Stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma of the clitoris and lymph nodes. I would love to talk to you anytime. I am doing well. There is hope and life after this kind of cancer, Stellareporter!
