PET Tomorrow

So tomorrow I have my three month post treatment PET scan.  This has been in the back of my mind for several weeks and now, here we are.  I won't get the results until one week later, even though I was given the option of calling in for the results two days later, I want to be there in person.

Hoping and praying for NED, but I understand the realities of false positives and stuff.  in the meantime I am to avoid sugar, carbs, and exercise until the test is over!  Tomorrow night I'll fire up the grill and maybe some ice cream for desert!

    Prayers to you!

Hi- I'm new here and my husband will have his first PET scan next month. Did you go through radiation? Did you lose a lot of weight? Just wondering how quick "normalcy" starts? He lost almost 50 lbs and hasn't gained much back yet. And I'm just a pile of nerves wondering when I won't feel scared anymore. We have 2 little boys...

thas for posting and best of luck!

    Worry

I try really hard not to worry because it robs me of the joy of today but I find it really difficult.  We are 11 weeks post treatment and the only normal we have back is not making the 3 hour trip for treatment every day. He is still eating almost nothing and is still losing weight slowly.  Radiation and chemo.  PET coming up.

    How Long...

...ago did your husband finish treatment?

I finished on March 31st.  I have seen big improvements with saliva production, taste buds, and energy levels.  I am still having a hard time swallowing foods down, and often need to flush down with water.  I went from 100% eating by tube to eating everything I used to (small portions though) in about ten weeks.  I made this improvement by forcing myself to eat, but it was not easy.

Yes, I lost about 20 pounds, but would consider myself at my ideal weight now.  Are you guys getting good advice from a dietician or nutritionist?  As far as feeling scared, that can't completely be avoided.  Just know that treatments are very effective and that positivity plays a huge role.  As far as my wife and I, we have a strong faith and have been praying a lot.

Had my PET today, and was shocked to get a call from one of the Doctors on my team, just a few hours later.  They reviewed my scan and there is no evidence of disease, a perfect scan!  Expect the same for your hubby and just take things one day at a time!

    It will take time

Hang in there. We are all different and heal at different rates. I am 7 months post treatment and am gaining weight finally. I am still having tremendous issues finding food that tastes remotely good. As well as food that I can moisten up enough to swollow. It takes time. I lost weight until about 4 months out of treatment. every day now things seem to be getting just a little better than the day before. My mouth is just a little more moisture each day. Keep on trucking. Time will heal.

    Thank you

For sharing your info. As he's two months out of treatment we were worried he's still not gaining. His dr said at his 6 week appt that many are losing still at this point and it was so good he gained 2 pounds. its just frustrating he lost almost 50 lbs in 3 months and has only gained back a couple.

one other queation, how much do you rest? My husband goes non stop working on cars (he has his own shop) and I worry he doesn't just rest enough.
