Look at the dates of the last posts in threads.  We get threads where people have not posted, literally, in over a decade.  When the last post in a thread is 4 to 5 years ago there is a good chance people who posted are no longer with us.  Not to mention the fact that there are changes that are happening in many aspects with what we are dealing with.

So before you post, look at the thread and the dates of the posts.  If they are old, start a new thread and introduce yourself and the issues.

    I agree, I think it's mostly new people that do that, maybe they don't realise. I hate looking though them and seeing people who are not here anymore. It's depressing. And you're right, cancer technology changes quickly. Much of it is old news.

    Sometimes people search for a subject and they are new and don't realize the date.  I've opened many posts where I've seen people that no longer post but didn't look at the date.  It's common and sometimes there is pertinent information on those posts but bringing up old posts is something that can happen without realizing it.  I'm guilty over the years of posting to an old post not realizing the date.

    The simple fix to this is to automatically lock threads which are past a certain age.  One of the forums I'm on does this without the need for any moderator intervention.  There are times the thread needs to be unlocked, but a moderator can do that.

    Welcome to the Forum!

    If this were my first visit to this forum and I read this thread, I would turn around and leave.  I am not an overly sensitive person, but my take-away from this post is that some of the members get irritated with the human frailty of newbees.

    We are all hurting in many aspects of our lives because of cancer.  For goodness sake, we don't need to be insensitive to each other and inadvertently add to that burden.

    I found this forum because of a search I did that pulled up a conversation from 2010.  I realize that was many years ago and old news to some of you, but new to me.  It was upsetting to learn that the person who originated the thread had passed away.  However, I learned alot from the many posts in response to his original question.  

    There is still valuable information to be learned from some of the older dialogues.  Why get upset about people reopening old conversations?  You don't have to be a part of the conversation if you choose not to.  It is better to allow the conversation to continue on with the newcomers than interrupt it because it is an old thread.

    I get a kick out of thinking that when I pass, my old threads will pop up and people will say 'Ah, Tru. She was a good sort. I miss her'. 

    I think it is suffician that we just let them know the fourm home page and they can go from there.

    Old Threads from the deceased

    I'm not sure if ACS boards are still doing this but if they find out you are dead they delete all your information which is sad.  I'm very concerned that my old threads will be deleted if something happens to me.  I've posted much valuable information that could help someone so I'm glad if someone pulls up an old thread of mine.
