1.2 cm rcc pathology report

i am looking for some advice.  The pathology report on my surgery indicated that the "tumor disrupted in inflamed frayed external capsule".  Does this mean it was broken and possible cells leaked out?  nothing was said about it in the operative report.  A surgeon who is a friend of mine said it would be mentioned in the operative report if it happened.  Any opinions,

wcco,

I would ask your surgeon and the Radiologist. At 1.2 cm there should be nothing to worry about, but we are not doctors.

I did ask my surgeon, and his response was "no, it's fine."  Maybe I am reading too much into it.

If the technical sounding medical info you mention above is clinically significant, it will most likely be included in the way they stage the tumor. What stage? What grade? That's your pertinent information. A tumor that small is likely of no worry. Easier said than done, I know. But true!!

It was a grade 1 stage pt1a.

It's irrelevant information to you. You have a teeny tiny low grade tumor that is 95% not going to ever come back. Move on and don't sweat the details. Seriously. It's not worth your brain power and mental energy!! You are very lucky, I'm so happy for you.

Just a guess, but I would think that this describes more of the location of the tumor.  The "external capsule" is the fibrous connective enclosure of the kidney. Fatty tissue covers the fibrous capsule and helps protect the organ from bumps and shocks.  So maybe the tumor was located in or "disrupted" that area of the kidney???

When I asked my surgeon if the tumor ruptured after surgery his response was "probably".  It doesn't sound very confident to me.
