results from biopsy after surgery

My husband had his surgery for stage 2 rectal cancer. He did end up with permanent colostomy due to the location of the tumor.  We had our follow up with surgeon today and got pathology report.  It found 1 of 31 lymph nodes involved and 4 tumor deposits.  I am in the process of researching the meaning of the deposits, etc.  I am always too stressed, etc to think of questions at the time.  I do know that he will have a more aggressive chemo plan than they intially intended.  We meet with the oncologist next week to find out exactly what the plan will be.

    Questions, what questions?!!

Its the same for many of us.  I used to write my questions down immedietely, and ended up with a list of them at every appointment.

I'm sorry about the permanent colostomy, but he will learn to live with it, and no doubt, be happy to be alive to do so. Thats how I look at the side effects that I have since surgery and treatment.

Let us know what treatment plan he is going to be on, and we can help.

    Edges

sorry to hear about permanent colostomy, I would ask surgeon about edges, was he able to obtain clear edges, meaning no cancer cells detected at the edges. whatever was at tumor site, it looks like got extracted, if any free floating cells are left, chemo Should finish it.

Radiation peak is about 16,17 weeks from the  begining of the therapy,  he is probablly somwhere in that range now, radiation lasts for months, years, that will help, as he wil get much stronger chemo now comparing to initial one with radiation.

I suppose they did CT scan initially, and will do it every so often.

    good luck!
