I met with my oncologist yesterday. She did blood work to test me for the breast cancer gene since I am TN and have a family history of breat cancer. My mom had bc and was also TN but she was never tested. So if I'm postive there is a 50/50 chance my daughter and sister could also be postive.I'm waiting for the doctor to make an appt to have a port put in. Then I will do 4 rounds of chemo (one round every 21 days) TC .Then if I test postive after chemo my doctor will do a double MX and remove my ovaries. Then I would have 5 to 6 weeks of radiation five times a week.

Welcome to a club no one wanted to join. I was diagnosed with TNBC Stage IIa Grade 3 in December 2009. I had a mastectomy in February 2010 and then I had 4 rounds of A/C (Adriamycin/Cytoxan) and 12 rounds of Taxotere. No radiation in my case. I am disturbed that no one mentioned genetic testing to me. A few months ago my 23 year old daughter had testing done for the BRCA genes. She was negative. I am immensely grateful for that bit of news. I had a port put in before chemo, also. It was a very good decision since I have small next to invisible veins. One poke and they are in. It was certainly a stressful time but here I am 6 years later.

I wish you only the best of luck.

    genetics testing

I found out Aug 21/2015 i had breast cancer, had a double mastectomy and 6 rounds of chemo every 21 days, 1 year of Herceptin. I have 2 more Herceptin treatment and my port taken out in December. I was tested on my first visit for the cancer gene and DID NOT have it. Which is was so happy! Breast cancer run on both sides of my family, so i just knew i would have it, PLUS i had breat cancer.  I think they should test everyone.
