Physical Therapy Today

I went for my first physical therapy today.  The first hour was testing and then half an hour of therapy.  I could hardly walk out of there and tonight I am in more pain than I've been in for a long time.  I think I'm going to take a hot shower, half a Percoset and go to bed.  I have to go back on Thursday and hopefully I will start feeling better instead of feeling worse!!

Anybody else go through PT?  My therapist also wants me to go to Occupational Therapy to work with my fine motor skills.

Love,

Eldri

    feel better

Gosh Eldri - I wish something could be easy for you darn it! I hope you get a good night's sleep and feel much better tomorrow.

Sending positive thoughts that this therapy will help you. Glad they are also suggesting additional help as well. It's about time you got medical help from people that care about you.

    Love and hugs,

    Cindi

    (((Eldri)))

I'm glad you're doing pt, and I hope it becomes helpful and stops being painful. I'm going to start pt after my radiation is completed, around May 1st. I have a pinched nerve in my back that flares up w too much activity. Its hard to get strong thru exercise when I'm felled with leg pain. Yep, back nerve wraps around my groin and knocks out my left leg. So incredibly painful. Add to that the neuropathy in my feet and hands, and my alien no eyelash, brow, head hair look and I'm a sight to be seen, like a foot dragging bald zombie!! Lol. Good gracious, what a fine strange year its been.

Hoping for the best for you Eldri, G

    Pt

i did have physical therapy on my left shoulder and arm last year. Thought first it was siatica but the therapist decided that it was the nerve sheafs shortening because of the chemo.  my arm and shoulder was so bad I couldn't open or close the car door and the pain ran from my shoulder to my finger tips.  The,therapist did a lot of pulling a stretching.  Always went home sore and hurting, but after awhile my shoulder and arm improved a lot. I can now move it without pain.  Hugs and prayers, Lou,Ann.  Stick to it, it will probably hurt for a while

I do feel better today, Lou

I do feel better today, Lou Ann.  I also signed up for the Livestrong cancer exercise class at the Y that starts next week for 12 weeks.  It meets two days a week and I'll also have my PT and maybe OT.  By the time I'm done I'll probably be doing the Wimpman Triathlon - you bike a block, you run naked in the rain and you swim in a hot bath.

    Glad you are feeling  better.

Glad you are feeling  better.  Everyone would have to close their eyes if I ran in that race.  My husband's home town has a marathon bike race called the tour de donut.  Minutes are subtracted from your time for each donut you eat at the various stops along the route.  I would like to go to n exercise class of some kind, but the nearest silver fit place is quite a ways away.  One of the draw backs for living in a rural area.  Lou Ann

Thank you all for the laughs!

Lou Ann and Eldri, I just love your humor.  Eldri, I think the Y program sounds gret, wish my local Y would offer it but the nearest class if 50 miles away, and that won't work.  I also would like to join a water arthritis class, but they only meet during the times I'm at work.  So, I will find a way to get my own PT in.  Lou Ann, glad to see you posting, hope your new chemo is going well.  Hugs Nancy

I told my husband last night

I told my husband last night about my plans for an exercise class at the Y which is an hour and 15 minutes long.  He laughed and said that I can hardly make it though the grocery store without holding onto the cart; how are you going to make it through that long of a class.  I told him I'm going to ask for a chair - LOL!!  The lady I talked to yesterday said they had an 85 year old in one of their classes.  If she can do it, I can do it!!

I'm going to talk to my physical therapist today to ask her advice.  When I starting walking again a few weeks ago, I got a big blister on the bottom of my left foot and couldn't even feel it.  Luckily, when the blister broke, my sock was wet and I noticed it.  I had to bandage it and curtail my walks until it healed.  I'm only up to walking for about 15 minutes but I can't imagine the leader of the class wouldn't let a person rest if they had to.  I just hope we don't have to get down on the floor because I may need a small crane to get me back up Tongue Out.

    Triathlon Plans Canceled!

I went to my PT today and they put me through the wringer!!  It was just an hour but by the time I was leaving and stopped at the desk to make my April appointments, I had to sit down or I would have fallen down.  I talked to my therapist who said with two appointments per week PLUS doing my exercises two times a DAY at home, I was really pushing the envelope to join a one hour and fifteen minute exercise class twice a week too.  She thought the fall class would be a much better alternative.  And, after the way I felt, I agreed with her 100%.

After my appointment I met my husband and son for lunch and just had a bowl of chicken soup.  We went back to work and I managed to get the March billing out but that was it.  I came home and put heat on my back - the sciatic nerve on the left side is just throbbing.  Thank heavens I still have some Percoset left because I think I'm going to need my half-a-pill tonight.  Man, here I was picturing myself in some kind of "Old Lady Olympics" standing on the podium (with some kind of railing, of course) and maybe the president was putting a medal around my neck.....  Well, the fame and glory will just have wait until next fall - and I even bought a new pair of Sketchers too!!  Cool
