Off Topic but IRS dosen't care

Options

OK, I get that IRS doesn't care that we spend big bucks for our health care, but really?  I dreaded figuring my tax return, but went into the office today to see what if any my medical bills would make to my 1040 itemized deductions.  Of course, thankfully, my insurance maximum kicked in at $4,000 but it amounted to $46 dollars deduction?  What a joke!  We are struggling for our lives, trying to keep up with the medical bills, and the IRS determines that because we earn a salary (because without our job, we would have no money) we shouldn't get any break on medical expense.  If I die, they won't get a peny more, but they will be certain that they get the last fricking penny  before my date of death!  Sorry, it just doesn't seem right to be fighting for my life and draining my bank account with both medical and tax bills.

    Health bills

Have to comment on this.  I don't live in the states but from the time I joined this site it has made me flaming angry when I read about you having to fight with insurance companies when scans and other procedures are essential.  All focus should be on well being and not the additional stress of having to worry about finances etc.

Donswife, I get your frustration with the IRS

We Americans, except the filthy rich, struggle to make ends meet and you can't expect any kindness from the federal gov't. I would have to owe and pay a large sum of my hard earned dollars to be able to take a medical deduction. It's wrong and should be fixed.

    Insurance in itself has

Insurance in itself has become so difficult. I had reached my out of pocket of 5,500 by November last year. Of January started a new year with 3,500 deductible and 5500 out of pocket and I'm almost up to 5,000 already. I could go on and on about this frustration and will my husbands company stay with the same insurance company so that I will know I won't be paying any more until the end of the year?

I feel your pain!!  We own a

I feel your pain!!  We own a small company so we buy our own insurance using after-tax dollars.  We had over $17000 out of pocket expenses including the premium.  The first $10000 doesn't count but at least we got to use the $7000 as an itemized deduction.  Starting January 1st, we started all over.....we were hoping to retire in 2017 but with these medical bills, it could be a lot longer Cry.

But, I'm thankful we have what we have and I guess working for a few more years won't kill me (that's me being sarcastic because the cancer probably will - LOL).

    Love,
