Hello All....Well my son has just had his radical nephrectomy. Doctors were and still are completly baffled about my sons tumor. If some of you don't know his story. My son, now 36 years old, had a tumor rupture 11 years ago in a foreign country. Very Serious!!! At the time doctors diagonsed as Angiopliloma. He was transported back to the US and had the tumor embolized. Both times he was at top notch hospitals.

All good goes back to "normal life" and had been somewhat consistent with his follow ups. Now 11 years later after having my partial neph (June 8, chrcc stage 3) I insisted he go back to have a scan. And here we are had right kidney removed and they are very certain it is cancer. They said that his case is very odd. Basically looked like his kidney exploded and tumor covered kidney. With all that they say it looks good no cancer in renal vein etc. I have so many questions I'm ready to explode. But I am in CA he in TX. We are all just wondering had it been cancer from the very start. If so why didnt they biospy then? Also I am a chromie. Chromie's are not known to be hereitary. Even my oncologist is baffled and wants to see path report as soon as it's in.

I am in the process of having genetic testing etc. but ther has been no cancer in my family. I am just a basket case full of unanswered questions.

Yikes!!

    Chromophobe

Hope your son is doing well. I"d bet that when his pathology comes back you should have more information.

Right now it's too hard to tell but a pathology report reveals a lot. Pathologists have a lot more to add than the surgeons "look see" when doing the surgery, as you know already!!

Unfortunately it's that horrible "waiting game" for now. Don't second guess yourself with your son, the tumor IS OUT!!!

I hope you find answers after the pathology report, I'll be thinking of you both. Keep us updated.

    Yws, that's right, pathology

Yws, that's right, pathology will tell you everything. It also great that looks like it was confined to kidney. If turns out to be cancer - prognosis will be excellent anyway.

How does your son feel after surgery?

    Nana4life, there is nothing

Nana4life, there is nothing worse than having your child seriously ill. I really feel for you. Like others have said here...pathology reports are very informative. Try not to worry too much. (Not easy, I know!).

He will be uncomfortable but he will be okay now. Keep us posted on his results.

    Hugs

Wishing you and your son the best. It could be a total coincidence and not hereditary. Also, until the path report is in it could be anything. Waiting is the worst part.

Oh dear "mother" how I feel

Oh dear "mother" how I feel for you! Glad your son's surgery is over and he's on his way to recovery.

If this is not gentic, could it possibly environmental? I agree, could it be related to the other tumor?

Let us know how he and you are doing.

Best healing and recovery to him!

    Hugs, Jan

    Thank you all for your

Thank you all for your empathy! I know everyone of you understand. Thank you.

Apparently the doctor came in today and said he is pretty confident that it was cancer and he would even say he thinks its chromophobe renal cell. I guess he's going by what he sees etc.

Which brings me back to "What?" Chrcc I thought wasnt hereitary. Well ther's goes that theory. I am getting some genetic work done by the company 23 and me. I've asked my mom to do a sample and I am hoping to get my Aunt (my fathers sister) to do one as well. I think it will be very interesting to get this data.

Jan4you I have no doubt that it could be both genetic and environmental. I think different genes are susceptible and more sensitive to environmental toxins. There is so much they are now learning about genetics. Its not necessarily a death sentence if you carry certain genes. It very well could be our enviroment, food and lifestyles  that can make all the difference. I believe its called epigenetics.

I will keep you all in the loop about this. Thank you again for being here. You are my angels!!
