Mom's Passing

Hello everyone.  I wanted to send little note to thank everyone on this discussion board.  While I may not have posted many comments, I have read through many of the posts.  These posts have helped me understand my moms journey and what possible things to expect on her journey.  Before I tell you about my mom's story, I just want to say that you are all very brave and I wish each and everone one of your the best (cancer fighters and family members alike).

My mom was diagnosed last April and was given 4-12 months to survive.  She was so brave and started her fight right away....chemo, radiation and some trials.  She was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer which spread to her liver, lymph nodes and her brain.  She lost her battle on April 21, 2015 at the young age of 61.  As per my mother's wishes, she did not want to pass away in a hospital or at home.  She wanted to pass in a hospice and that is what happened.  We are very lucky to have such a wonderful hospice in our city (Ottawa, ON Canada) and she spent one week there until her passing.  The respect and care given by the hospice was amazing.  After she passed and the funeral home came for her, our family, the nurses and even some family members of others in the hospice followed the body to out and saluted her...saying farewell to her....it was absolutely amazing.

I hope that this discussion board continues to provide help and answers to others during their journey.  Take care and I wish you all the best.
