Doctor in NYC to treat papillary serus uterine cancer

I was diagnosed Stage IIIC UPSC or IVA depending on which opinion you want to use.  This was in Feb 2013.  I am in the Los Angeles area but my doctors out here brought Dr. Levine in as part of my peer review and tumor board last year due to progression and unique metatastic spreading.  I am chemo resistant.  My tissues are being used for research in addition to my treatment.  I have not met him in person but he, along with others from Dana Farber, UCLA, City of Hope and MD Anderson are part of my team. 

Don't use my story as cause for alarm, I am still in treatment but working full time and riding my horses.  I live life fully.  I am sure other ladies will weigh in here.  Encourage her to get on this board, it is an amazing resource and source of encouragement!  Lucky her to have a friend like you.  Anne

If I lived in or near NYC , I'd definitely go to Sloan Kettering as it is rated among the top 5 cancer centers in the nation. Your friend does need to see a gynecologic oncologist. I did not have a CA -125 blood test before surgery and knowing what I know now, I wish that I had. I was too ignorant then to ask for the blood test. Going in, my surgeon thought I had a grade 2 cancer.  Well , the pathology report showed otherwise. Hopefully , your friend's UPSC will be a stage 1.

MSKCC if her insurance covers it

I'm a patient at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Feel free to private message me if you have any questions. They have the "luxury" of seeing many of the rare/difficult cancers as well as the most managable ones. They are also a very well-funded institution. I had two friends who have been unfortunately diagnosed with uterine cancer since mine and they did not receive the same care as I did. They are also located in NYC. It's a shame because their insurance would have covered MSKCC but because of the sequence of events, they found themselves somewhere else. I'm not saying MSKCC is perfect but your friend is near the #1 cancer hospital in the country, so why not? My family was shocked when they heard I was a patient at MSKCC because they thought MSKCC only handles the most rare and difficult cancers... My second choice would have been NYU. They have excellent doctors there too and are up-and-comers in the field of gyno-onc. Good luck.
