in Head and Neck Cancer #1

I know I killed the word so hope it can be figured out.Anyway wondering if anyone has had them made.I go to the densit monday about having them made.From what my doctor said the guy is very good at fitting people like us with teeth.He said he makes a few adjustments along the way and will build up the bridge in order for my tounge to reach top of mouth again to make it easier to swallow and speak.

    I had special dentures fitted. Worked til my surgery last Sept. when I had the remaining lower teeth removed. Waiting til after my nxct and hopefully final surgery to see if I can be fitted again. In the meantime, am doing everything I can to hang on to original top teeth. My initial plan was implants but tht is no longer an option for me.

    They removed all mine during

    They removed all mine during surgery they said that after radiation they would most likely have to be pulled anyway.Talking with my surgen it sounded like they removed so when I do have the specail teeth made up medical will pay.I know I can't get implants as the jaw is to soft now to hold them.He is talking about special uppers with a thick plate so tounge would hit it as it use to normally.He wanted the denist to make a set for the booms so he could go and do some work on the gum to fit them then sew them in place but depends on the denist.Think I will need one for each side as my tounge is now tied down in the center but not sure if along gum line.He also wanted to wait till the swelling is down enough as he said he doesn't want me going back to be refitted..

    Dentures

    Waiting til the swelling goes down makes sense. They can do some amazing things with the dentures. Hope all goes well with yours.

    Went and seen the denist.He

    Went and seen the denist.He said no problem about my uppers he will make them and plate will be thick enough to make sure my tounge hits like normal to be able speak better and to get food up and over down my throat which means alittle more solid types of food.The lower he said he will get my surgen they have worked together for some time with people like us.He will make a mold for the surgen to follow and this will seat on my gums and sewn into place then dentures on top of that.The thing is he want to surgen to move my tounge flap as it is now it is attached to the front of my gums and wants it moved down some to give it room for a full mouth of dentures.He wants to take x-rays again in March it all comes down to when my jaw bone become strong again.When they operatated the split my jaw open to beable to get at the tumor and it was fused back with a plate and now waiting for the bone to heal more.He even said they might beable to remove the plate.
