How soon after surgery should we expect to see oncologist?

I was wondering how soon after surgery and original pathology report should one expect to see an oncologist?

My husband met with his urologist the Monday after having his kidney removed on the previous Wedenesday.  He told us he would send over the pathology report to the oncologist and the oncologist would contact us when he was ready to proceed.  Evidently there was a breakdown in communication between the urologist's office and the oncologist's office and my husband was supposed to be in the oncologist's office at 11:00 this morning.  My husband never recieved the phone call from either office that an appointment had been scheduled.  They are wanting to see him in the office ASAP and had rescheduled for Monday at 1:00.

Is this a normal time frame?

Should I be concerned that they are wanting to see him immediately or is this normal?

What should we expect on our first visit?

Don't read too much into the number of days you wait to see an oncologist. Some see one right after surgery. Some wait a month or two. You are going to discuss your reports, scan frequency and your prognosis. Nothing is going to change whether this was yesterday, tommorow or a week or month from now.

    Sooner is better!

It is great they want to see you that soon. Waiting for an appointment is stressfull. Try not to worry over the weekend too much. They will want to discuss the frequency of scans etc that your hubby will need. With his histology they will be monitering you closer than normal Rcc clear cell. Take a notebook to write down what they say. My husband used to come away from these meetings not able to remember much.  Hugs Melissa

I saw mine a week later, then

I saw mine a week later, then every six months. My surgeon is an oncologist so that made it convenient.

    Clinical Trials

    Hey

There are clinical trials you may be interested in.  In general they must begin 80-90 days following surgery so it is good to see the oncologist as soon as possible and get as much information as you can before making a decision.
