My Day in Urgent Care

I began to have pain breathing deeply last night before choir and thought it was indigestion. I got a little better and was able to sleep but woke up in a lot of pain early this morning.

I had to call Dr. Lee, my Pulmonologist anyway for appointments for bloodwork soon and a CT scan in October. But they said to go to urgent care. I spent the day there.

They took blood and gave me a CT scan. This one just of the lung with contrast, not an entire pelvic scan.

There was fluid and the mass grew since the last scan in July.

I have to call to schedule another biopsy on Monday.

They sent me home with oxicodone.

Not too happy this happened but can't think of a better way I could have spent my day when I put it in perspective.

Fondly,

Sandy

I am so sorry to hear about this.  I hope that you get definitive answers quickly.  The stress must be unbearable.

I will be thinking positive thoughts for you.

I'm so sorry to hear this.  I know how worrisome it must be to get these results on the CT scan.  I hope your doctor can do a biopsy soon and figure out what is going on.  I wish you weren't in pain, my dear, sweet friend.  I am sending up some prayers for you and many virtual hugs to you.  Please keep us posted as you can.

    Dear sandysp,

Not only did you get disappointing news, but you had to spend a day of boredom, tedium, anxiety, and proably hunger to get it.

Seriously, though, as I've said before, you are amazing at exhibiting grace and calm under adversity.

    One Boston Cream

Ha, ha about the hunger! Yes I was. I treated myself to a Boston Cream Doughnut at Dunkin Doughnuts that morning just before going in and I am so glad I did because there was no more food for me until I got home at 7:30 p.m. When I left the Urgent Care Center was depressingly jam packed. They needed my space on the wall and my guerney for sure. I am so glad I had that Boston Cream! I had fond memories of it all day. I am constantly having to make myself walk by Dunkin Dougnuts. The Boston Creams in there call out to me, I swear I can hear them! This time I said "what the heck" and answered their call. My only regret is that I didn't have two of them:-) It was the only thing I felt like eating since I was in pain and dreading going in to Urgent Care. On the way home I had a Mr. Tastee ice cream cone dipped in dark chocolate. So yesterday was a bust as far as nutrition goes.

I really appreciate all of your support and empathy. I would imagine the biopsy will be done right away and hopefully the results will be back sooner than last time. I am hoping and praying this is all about mold and not all about cancer. But in any event, taking oxicodone is no picnic since it hurts my stomach but I think it's a good idea for a couple of days, at least even to help relax the area. It's hard not to be afraid of sharp pain. I had this before when I was 19 and had a bad case of pneumonia, after being hospitalized for 8 days, running fevers of 105 to 106 the same lung absessed, sending the fluid into the pleura. Very, very painful for a long time. This feels just like that only I am not running any fever. It also feels exactly like it did when I woke up from the last biopsy. Dr. Lee said then that this kind of pain was not a normal reaction to the procedure. It must have stirred something up that was ready to happen anyway. It was weird how all of a sudden out of the blue, I got that pain back again.

Pain isn't always a bad thing. Hopefully this is just one more bold step to better health.

    Thanks again.

Oh Sandy, sorry to hear all of this, I hope everything gets expedited for you now and all cleared up quickly. If I was closer I would bring you a dozen boston cream donuts ! Once this is all done we will have to meet up again in the city for lunch, I will be in Wed for my colo-rectal visit (taking a half day from work) but you need to get this all taken care of and then we'll get you a donut for dessert when this is all over xo Praying for you right now !
