I am 1 1/2 years post treatment. My last colonscopy was in April and all was good. I just so my onc and all is good. I recently posted about my potassium levels being low due to some meds and now they are normal. Onc told me I don't need another colonoscopy 2 years.

So last weekend was Memorial Day weekend and I spent a lot of time with friends and family eating and drinking lots of beer. Now I'm bleeding. I haven't had bleeding in a long time. I can't eat raw broccoli because it will cause me to bleed, but now I was bleeding this morning and my stomach is distended.

I know I have to find a new normal but do you think the bleeding and the distended stomach is because of took my of alcohol and bad diet?

Most likely. I often have a similar problem after a week end of partying. The bloating and bleeding should go away in a day or two.

I really couldn't say, but it's possible that your flare-up was caused by too much of a good thing--food and beer--and that your insides were just overwhelmed.  Since treatment, I find that my guts appreciate consistency in my diet.  However, sometimes I stray and pay a price for it afterwards.

Just a word to the wise for you and everyone else, based upon my own experience with intestinal obstructions--if you have a distended stomach and BM's stop, which is accompanied by severe abdominal pain only relieved by vomiting, you may have an obstruction.  This can be very serious and immediate medical attention should be sought.  One of the first things I have noticed every time I've had an obstruction is a distended belly.

I hope by the time you read this, your issues will have gone away.

    Distention is awful

Everything I've read about cancer treatment and the aftermath, even the literature given to me by the cancer rehabilitation program, recommends that we avoid alcohol. I do anyway, unless it's a very expensive port (and I mean expensive - so it's self-limiting).

But the first thing I thought about was the carbonation in the beer. We have to avoid beverages with carbonation while in treatment and right afterward due to the irritation and distention it causes our gastrointestinal systems. Could it that your guts are still too tender? I don't drink beer, so I don't know how it tastes. Is flat, but cold beer an option for you?
