Hi all, Im trying to get all my questions ready for my Urologist tomorrow,  I feel like i have so many questions. I just cant remember what I wanted to write down,..  I was wondering thou would my urologist recommend me to a oncourologist? or would he be the one that would be doing the surgery? or does he start out then after all results come in and if positive then he refers to the other?

Well i will keep you all posted

Have a good day All

Urologist is the one that does surgery.  Ask what kind of surgery open or robotic, partial or full.  My RCC was small so my urologist told me not to  see an oncologist because they are required to x-ray you monthly and that the risk of over exposure to radiation would be great.

Mad,

I assume your Urology appointment is with the one doing the surgery. Only a small  number of Urologists are involved with Kidney Cancer surgery and they are generally the younger ones. You want to discuss what surgical options there are. There may only be one option. You indicated on another post that you already have Stage 3 CKD ( most of us do after we lose a Kidney), so you may want to discuss that and discuss a referral to a Nephrologist if you are not already seeing one. Following up with an oncologist or an Oncologist consultation is something that can be addressed after the surgery.

You will probanly have pre op tests if you have not had them already. These include a physical exam to ake sure you are heaththy enough for sugery as well as a chest xray or CT to confirm weather or not their are mets to the lung (the first evidence of spraeding). And of course a lot of bloodwork.

Take your husband or partner so that they can be part of the consultation.

Publish recommended minimal followup protocols for different stages/grades and types of kidney cancer. My oncologist showed them to me one day at my appointment online on their website. I'm pretty sure NONE of them required a monthly x-ray. In fact, I'm pretty sure there were no follow-ups that required monthly anything...

The oncologist actually do know what they are doing. I'm a little annoyed at a urologist who says he knows how to follow kidney cancer patients better than oncologists do (but not surprised by it). You don't get to be a surgeon unless you have at least some level of hubris, it seems.

Well?? How did it go?

How big is your mass? I'm assuming there is one due to grade 3

& how does he know it's a grade 3? Isn't that known after it

is removed, during a pathology report?? After surgery?

Laura.

Madzoon has Stage 3 CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease). This has nothjing to do with the grade of her tumor and from her history is  not related to her RCC.

Those of us who are older and also had a NEPH typically have Stage 3 CKD as well which basically means that your GFR is above 30 and below 60. I hope I have not confused you.  Starting with Stage 3 CKC is an additional burden for RCC.

Sorry, I was confused.

It must have been posted on a different thread about having kidney disease?

So ice man, grade 3 is that the same as stage 3?

Is kidney cancer different than ckc? Chronic kidney cancer??

Laura.

We arw all confused in the beginning.

CKC (Chornic Kidney Disease) has to do with Kidney function The failure of a Kidney can lead to dialysis (Stage 5 CKC) as well as contribute to heart issues (much more common).

Most people with CKD do not have Kidney Cancer. Losing a Kidney to Cancer negatively effects your Kidney function as does high blood pressure. diabetes and age.

Putting it simply, a lot of people have bad Kidneys unrelated to Cancer. Having Kidney Cancer adds to CKC. This is why others and mself with RCC also see a Nephrologist to address a Kidney friendly lifesyle after our Neph/ especially where our GFR is low and we have high blood pressure issues as well.

The size and grade of your tumor is generally not related to CKD other than the fact that losing a Kidney or partial kidney negatively effects your kidney function.

I used the term CKC by mistale. It is called CKD (chronic kidney disease) which or the most part is not related to Cancer.
