Another step forward

Options

Went to both my radiation and surgery doctors last week for a check up.Both are happy with the way things are healing. Both grabbed pulled and all the good stuf to see how my thounge was doing.Radiation doctor was glad and surprized how well the swelling has gone in my tounge.Have been able to eat alot better and speak better also since they took out the trach tube. It's been over a month and my sergen said he can still hear a slight whistle. When I see him next month he said if he still hears it he is going to put a stich in to help it close better. With the weight I gained was hoping he would of pulled the peg tube. But he wants to wait until I have the pet scan in early Aug just for safty reasons. He seems to like to leave things in until tests and the rads and meds are all done. The good thing is he signed my release form to back to work.He siad I can do whatever I want but to ease into them.I have noticed that when doing anything with my arms over my head I do feel alittle weak and think it might have to do with the lymphnodes that were removed and will have to work on making that stronger.I still have some swelling along my the front by the throat he said it is soft and most likely scar tissure from radition.I do wear a compression wrap for a while at nite hoping that will help. The only thing I can notice is that I wake up and my tounge feels alittle swollen and slivia is pretty thick until I can hack it up.As I have said my mouth is usally full of slivia except now alot less at nite will have to take water with me but if that's the biggest thing going on I'll take it.

    That is such good news.....

It's always good to hear some is doing that good. When you hear the doctors tell you that is such a relef to hear. Knowing what you did go through and now your recovery is doing so well. It's always fun to be able to "stick your toung out at your doctors" and make them happy...LOL  Best to you

    Glad

Glad to hear you are doing so well.  I was in the hospital - the second time - when you first joined - and have been following along. I think you were getting out of the hospital around my 4th say.

    Definitely ease into work.

I'm 4 months back to work now - just getting up to 23-24 hours in.  A huge step from the 20 hours a few weeks ago - but a long way to go still.

I have heard they would put

I have heard they would put me on light duty .But do feel alittle stronger everyday. Then hit that point where I'm just beat.So just going to try to build myself up.Antzy to get back to work but also alittle nervous.Have told them my speach isn't quite up to par but know from before surgery some of the guys had a hard time understanding me with my tounge so swollen from the tumor. But figure it this way if my 5 yr old niece can understand me so should they...

    Back to Work

I agree with the dock take it easy and don’t go back trying to do everything like you once did. You will find there are limitations on what you can and can’t do but you will learn new ways around them, all part of your new normal. I am still working full time and I am 10 years passed my second treatment, there are a lot of things I can do as I once did but at the end of the day I do get it done, just a little slower.

    Also

Also, another reason to take it easy when you go back to work.  Shingles.  I let myself be so worn down, I got shingles.  If you've had it before, you know you don't want it again.

so glad to hear you're doing

so glad to hear you're doing well.  you are definitely heading in the right direction.  keep up the good work and don't overdo.  when your body says "rest", listen to it.  heal on my friend!

    Working

Sounds like you're making great progress :-) Going back to work will put you one giant step closer to your new normal. Don't over do and for the first week, just plan to come home and go to bed early until you see how your body is reacting.

    Good luck!

    CONGRATULATIONS

I'm glad to hear that you are getting the smiling approval from your docs about your healing going so well, congratulations.  You just have to be patient to let it all take place.  It is better, I feel, to take a little more time to remove tubes, just to be on the safe side.  Getting back to work is a good thing to help get that new normal rolling, but your easing back into it is the way to go.  You will gradually regain your strength, and range of motion with in your arms.  It gets better, Keep It Mov'in Forward!
