Checking in with inspirational quote of the day

When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.

i thought this was an  appropriate quote for the day in this room.

had my 18 month check up yesterday and the doc said everything looks good and we would schedule a pets can in December. He also mentioned something that he didn't mention after my last pet scan almost a year ago that there is a "nodule" on my lung we need to watch but is is probably nothing. I don't know why it took a year for him to tell me this- may be nothing to him but now I have something else to worry about. Nice to see a lot of new newbies doing well. Nice to see the old dogs doing well- I see John is recovering nicely- I wish him a speedy recovery-

i am still challenged with side effects but living- taste is about 75%- bad ringing in the ears- dry mouth at night continues- still dealing with the sticky saliver -  but the doc said I am doing good and  look great. I am back to struggling to keep weight off. I was over weight at around 195 going into treatment - the treatment knocked me down to about 160 and I am now 185.

I see a lot of people with almost identicall treatment as me 3 citsplatin. And 30-40 rads. I think in my case because they never found the primary I just had a lot more stuff radiated and that is why I am still dealing with the side effects.

prayers and good wishes to all- keep up the fight my fellow warriors/survivors

Ralph

Ralph, my often used thought of the day. Song title and Anfield anthem You'll Never Walk Alone. Often used by Singapore contributor and fellow Liverpool FC fan Nelson Ong. Heard lots of people with nodules that come to nothing and hope so much yours falls here. Surely if they were worried they'd have not left it a year! I done 33 rads and 3 cisplatin. Finished last Thu. If I look as fit as you in a year Ill be happy. G.

    Good luck- be patient

    Guzzle,

you made it through the hard part- now you must be patient as the radiation actually continues in your body for a while. I don't know your situation but I am sure they told you to stay out of the sun, get plenty of fluids, try to ingest at least 2000 calories a day- even it it means via ensure or other supplements . Clear chicken broth was good for me with tiny pastina- or pastina in a butter sauce. I remember soggy French toast went down easy- instant oatmeal went down good with lots of milk in it. for me it was a real slow process before I would start to eat normally again. Don't get discouraged and keep pushing/ testing yourself to see what you can eat. I now juice dailly and recommend it, but it will be a month or so before you will be able to tolerate it

good luck and keep up the good work

    Sir Ralph

    Roar,

Way to go 18 months post and the doctor said everything looks fine.  Looks fine, sounds great to me.  The nodule thing will pass and the taste and saliva will continue to improve.  At 2y 3m I am still getting better on all fronts, those rads are killer, but body Matt is in repair mode still.

    Great NEWS

    Hey Ralph,

Congratulations on the NEDs, that's great news.  Hang in there, it takes time, but the life will continue to improve, often times at a very imperceptable rate.  One thing though, if you are not receiving PET/CT scans (gold standard) you might want to chat with your doc about getting them from now on; I'm just say'in.  Keep It Mov'in Forward!

    Hi Ralph

If I had to quote something is would be “Who moved my Cheese”.

I had the same thing a few years after my treatment the doctor said I have a nodule on my Lung he wanted to monitor; that was 8 years ago now so I guess it was nothing. Glad to hear you got another good report and glad to hear you got most of you weight back and doing what you love to do.
