Anesthesia during surgery

When I had a bilaterial mastectomy and reconstruction, I was under anesthesia for 10 hours.  When I awoke I had a four-inch long, one-inch wide sore spot on my scalp where my head had rested in a doughnut-shaped cushion.  Eventually, the skin and hair sloughed off and left a bald strip.

Some doctors say this is common under anesthesia, others say they have never heard of it.  Has anyone else had this experience with a long surgery?
