Hi everyone. I have read so much on here and you all are the strongest women I know. I pray I can be too!. I'm 25 and a mother of two AMAZING boys. I was just in the Dr office yesterday I had found a lump in my left breast.  Their telling me their just fibrous and not to worry, but they order a ultrasound and mammogram I go for in 6 days . I have the pit in ny stomach feeling that I some how just know it's not going to come back with an all clear. I don't know how to sit in limbo waiting to know and from what I have read these go so misdiagnosed as normal when their not. Being 25 I know I'm not in the high risk area but I have known to many women in their 20s with BC that I am realalistic....cancer knows no age. I can't eat and worse can't sleep. I find my self in tunnel vision of what my future could hold and wonder if I'm strong enough.  Does anyone have any way of learning to breath?

The waiting is the pits "NOT

The waiting is the pits "NOT KNOWING" we can all relate I am sure. It's easy for medical staff to say DON"T WORRY-since not THEM! "6" day wait I know seems like eternity. TO US everything in regards to this is URGENT-but must sit back and wait-

I'll check back to see how you are doing!

    Thank you Denise for writing

Thank you Denise for writing I honestly thought no one would.  The wait the "what ifs" are driving me off my edge. My husband and I just lost a baby 6 weeks ago in second trimester and now this. It's like everything just fell. I'm praying so hard it okay but I understand so well the gravity of cancer in it's self . I just want these days to go by  so I can be out of limbo

    Hold on!

Believe me, I understand your anxiety. ALL of us here have been in your shoes. But you have yourself dead and buried already. Hold on! On step at a time. At your age, fibrocystic changes are common. On top of that, your body is trying to adjust to your miscarriage. The swirling hormones are not helping.

Yes, you are right. Cancer does strike young people but it not likely. If you cut your finger, it COULD get infected and end up needing more medicine. But you've got a cut that has jumped straight into losing your whole arm!

You don't have to wait long. They will do the tests and you'll wait another few days to find out what's going on. If the doc thought this was something serious, he would have sent you to a breast specialist right away. The ultrasound will tell them if the lump is a fluid filled cyst, which it likely is. They might draw a little fluid out of it and send it to the lab. Mammograms on young women are harder to read because your breast tissue is dense, but they will check it out anyway. If there is anything unusual, you will be called back for another mammogram that will magnify an area of concern. If there is still a question, they could send you for a biopsy. Read my description of one on another thread listed near this one, dealing with sterotactic breast biopsy. Even then, 80% of the people who go for biopsies find out the lump is benign.

So you see, you are getting WAY ahead of yourself. Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles, it empties today of its strengths.

    I absolutely cantvthank you

I absolutely cantvthank you enough Sandra. I understand so much that I'm in a complete spiral and it's only making this a million times worse.  I have a good friend who is in stage 3 at 29 and another in stage 2A at 33. I think because I have seen first hand their experiences over the last year that it's made me panic and see the reality . I have to calm down because your right it won't take away the problem if there is one . Thank you so much for the note I have read it three times already. :-)

    I understand your angst

and I'm 66!  It is very prudent of your doctor to investigate the lump further and I hope you'll get good results - in 6 days!  Seems like forever, doesn't it?  You might call and see if they'll call you if they have a slot open up sometime sooner.  We all react differently but similarly.  I remember waiting for my ultrasound and compression mammogram and another patient was waiting with me.  She was in tears.  I wasn't even nervous (I'd been called back before and everything was fine).  As a young mother you have the additional worry about your family plus you have seen how devastating breast cancer can be.  Keep coming back here for lots of support as you need it.

I'm quite capable of making myself crazy and 3 years ago I was really quite consumed by everything cancer.  Many folks told me not to worry, etc. but it didn't make any difference.  I found so much support here from folks who understand.  I also allowed myself to be miserable because I told myself it would be temporary (and it was for me).  I kept a calendar and crossed off the days as things progressed.  If you do that, I hope your calendar is very very brief and only until you hear that the ultrasound and mammogram were all clear.

    Hugs,

    Suzanne

    Praying

I'm trying to figure out what to tell you. Waiting is so hard. Call the office and see if you can get in earlier. If you can make your schedule flexible enough tell them you are available for any cancellations that open up. Try not to go to the dark places while you are waiting. They can swallow you up. If you do get a breast cancer diagnosis, you may be stronger and braver than you thought you could be. And mommas with boys are a special breed :)! I'm 44 and have kiddos at home. I look back at the last several months (diagnosed in March...chemo, surgery, and then radiation) and I can honestly say I am not the same person. My faith is stronger, I'm tired, I'm grateful, I get scared...each day is different. But, take each day and live it. Love your hubby, love your boys, and get the rest you need. Praying for the best!

I was (with much force and

I was (with much force and paying out of pocket) able to get an appoint at 2:00pm today. I had an ultrasound done targeted at the lump. Both the ultrasound tech and radiologists did an ultrasound. The radiologists said the it is not a cyst but doesnt look alarming. She believes since it's not solid or hard and it is movable and has give that it's fibro tissue. I do have lumpy bumpy breast as she put it as did my obgyn and general surgeon. I was told to go home and not worry. I'm trying my best. It's still the thought that it's there. So my question is are the ultra sounds good at seeing the difference between fibrous tissue and cancer? Do I need to have a biopsy or mri? I still have to go through the weekend with out talking to my obgyn more about theresults so I'm trying to be calm. Has any one been in this situation? Do I breath and thank god that so far things are good.....I don't want to be complacent or have a false sence of security of being okay. I just want to take all the right steps.

    I understand. You won't be

I understand. You won't be able to put this behind you until you know what it is for sure. Can you ask for a biopsy?

The odds are in your favor

but I know that doesn't make it any easier.  I had a similar situation about a year after I finished treatments. I had a small palpable lump (opposite breast) that looked hunky dorey on both ultrasound and compression mammogram.  Radiologist said I just had lumpy breasts (I do).  My pcp said given my history, she could never live with herself if she didn't also order an MRI so she did.  It was fine also.  Of course, the only way to know for sure is to biopsy the lump so they can actually look at the cells under a microscope.  You can ask your ob/gyn for either if you're still uncomfortable.  The worst thing that can happen is he'll say not necessary.  In any case, you should closely follow the lump for any changes.  And that's sort of the big deal.  A cancerous lump won't go away - it will grow and change.  So, keep an eye on it and report any changes immediately.

I'm glad that the ultrasound and mammo were negative.  I  hope you can relax now.
