Salt & Soda Solution for Secretions

I came across the "recipe" I was given for salt and soda solution to help control secretions.

Thought it may be helpful to share. :)

Into 1 quart water add:

1/2 teaspoon table salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Shake or stir solution. Store at room temperature.

Use every 1-3 hours - especially after eating, taking oral supplements, and after sleeping.

    Woops.....

Correct you are.  This should have coverage in the superthread, but when I looked there to confirm, there is a problem or two.  John, the link to "the essential kit..." is broken.  This is where i think this was covered.  Any way to fix it?

    thanks for posting.

II have aquestion,....and I'm not sure it's "a comment," but we have larynx cancer and esophageal and throat cancer. After the very first chemotherapy treatment, my spouse was vomiting and blood was coming out. Are these safe for him to gurgle while he is in the healing recovery mode after chemotherapy?

Heads up, we have chemo every week because of the severity and the size of the mass,so I would like to know if salt with baking soda would be better than the hydrogen peroxide? Our oncologist told us to use children's mouthwash. I'm open to every suggestion, and I think that we are open to trying anything that might help my husband

. Thank you so much for your assistance with our newly developed situation.

    Hello,

For questions about safety it would be better to ask your health care team. Best of luck!

Hello, you can try the salt and baking soda rinse to see if it works better, but I agree with the CSN Support Team that you should check with your care team.

They are there for you and usually have a doctor on call 24 hours a day.

Especially since he is having such adverse reactions after one treatment definitely get with your care team.

Is there any radiation planned ahead for treatment?

    Hello Russ,

Yes. We are set up for 8 weeks at 5x a week radiation. I'm not sure when that will begin. For now, we WERE scheduled for 4 weekly chemo therapies, which has now been extended to a total of 12 weekly treatments.
