I've started eributux and wondering if any one on it can tell me about the side affects. In particular the rash.  Any pics available of the rash?  How long did it take for it to appear?  Did it gradually get worse?  Better?

Ive be just noticed some blemishes around my mouth and nose.  Thanks. Appreciate the feedback.

I got what looked likes zits mostly on my nose where it would be most visible of course, and then a redness from chin, cheeks to just above eyebrows along with dryness a cracked skin. It takes about a week to appear, then for me starts to go away after about four days then repeats itself after next infusion(I am every two weeks, when I was every week the rash was constant).  I have a red  face as I type.

Same as Winter Marie, my brother got what looks like zits about a week or so after starting erbitux. He has them on his scalp, face, neck and chest. They had to put him on minocycline and a hudrocortisone creme. He uses Head and Shoulders to wash and it seems to help. Make sure whatever you use, it's mild on the skin. My friend's brother uses Aveeno body wash all over. His has gotten much better, but it's still there but very small. It's not as bad as when he first broke out. He's in the hospital now with several thoracic emboli, so I'm thinking he will be off chemo until his wound heals from the surgery. I'm not sure yet.

Good luck!

Hi, I'm currently taking Eribitux and Folfox and I'm dealing with the rash. I take minocycline and it helps, however I still break out 2 weeks after treatment, primary areas are upper chest and back, neck and face. It's like i'm a 16 yr old all over again.  I'm on my 10 dose of chemo and the rash seems to get a little worse after each dose.  The last few cylcles of chemo I've noticed that  my face is kind of sore as is my scalp. Several of posters have recommended Head and Shoulders shampoo to stop the scalp itching, so far it's helped. I take Tylenol ES and that helps the face sorenes.  I suspect that in another weeks time the rash will eventually go away for awhile, like it has in the past.  Yeah, it's no fun, but it's manageable...

photo DCP_9001-Copy_zps07eaf918.jpgHere is my lovely erbitux rash as of today, one day before my third weekly treatment. I have been on doxycycline since my last treatment. I have not yet found the solution to the periodic itching and pain from the rash on my face and scalp. My chest and upper back have the rash as well, but are not uncomfortable.

My brother's rash looked exactly like that. Minocycline and hydrocortisone creme helped him a lot. Also, using H&S made it easier. My friend's brother uses the Aveeno body wash on both hair and body.

Oh my. Not looking forward to that. Maybe I should have taken hair loss instead.  I know we need to do what we need to do but had I seen the pic, I would have shaved my head.   The discomfort alone is crazy!!!

I try to look at the bright side. No one crowded me when I went shopping the other day!

How long was it before the head and shoulders seemed to make a difference?

In about two weeks he was starting to look better. Don't forget, though, he was also on minocycline AND hydrocrtisone creme. I think a combination of all helped him.

I've been on doxycycline for about a week, and 1% hydrocortisone at night, but just started using the head and shoulders a couple of days ago. Hopefully a little more time will lead to improvement.

I have to say mine has never gotten that bad, this is average for me. This is today.

i also don't take the anti-biotics, I told the onc I rather save it in case I get pneumonia or something worse, scared of losing effectiveness as time goes by.

That looks like a sun Burn.  What do you use on yours?

Head and Shoulders and a cream I put on twice a day called Arbonne Intelligence not-so-basic Rejuvenating cream (I don't know if they make others so wrotw everything on the jar), it makes my face skin feel so much better after I put it on.

that's what my kids told me, "Mom, it just looks like a sunburn, quit worrying about it."

Some say the worse the rash the better treatment is working.   Interested to know the changes in peoples CEA levels whilst on this regime.   Mine got as low as 3,3 but then I'd gotten golden staph on top lip and 3 weeks later ecoli infection.  Immune system must have been low.  Hope its the infection that caused the CEA rise.   guess I'll find out next week

Hi Nana b,

Dick had the same looking rash but mostly on his back.  It was with him the entire time on Erbitux but he got used to it.  His nose took a hit for about 6 weeks when it got real crusty and infected but meds took care of that.  The hardest thing for him was staying out of the sun.  He was on doxycilne the entire time.

Thinking of you.

Aloha,

Kathleen

I've been on it for many years but currently on a break. The rash can get bad but over time it lessened for me. Use fragrance free skin products when possible, also ask about minocyclin, an antibiotic, that can help lessen the rash.

check this resource out too.

My father in law just took his 2nd erbitux treatment on Friday. His first was the Friday before. He has not experienced the horrid rash as of yet. At what point does ot normally show up?

For me, right after the second infusion.

the rash showed up the end of the first week after first infusion (both times), but I also had lost my hair by the third week, and here I am six weeks later on the second go around (last time I had Erbitux was Aprill and started on Vetibix in October) and while my hair has thinned (not noticeably, only I know from touching it, and from the hair that seems to land on my food), so far have only lost the gray hairs and not all of them, I am amazed, I'm hoping I'll still have my hair for my daughter's graduation on the 14th of December!!

mine this time has been a red face mostly and very few zit like things, but am on Vetibix this go around, I had more zit stuff on my nose with the Erbitux.

I'm not supposed to lose the hair, I'm on oxy and xeloda, but I have noticed thinness and gaur loss, lots on the brush and fingers.  My head itches.  I read that your hair growing at times uncontrollably is a Eurbutux side affect.   Come on lashes. :).  Got to keep some humour going.

This year was the first time in my life that I bought and can use an eye lash curler!!  I was so happy to have had to finally make that purchase, while the rest of me was bald (Irrinotecan) in the beginning of this year my eyelashes grew and still remain long, a lovely side effect.

You can too!!! Below are three posts from my blog dealing with Erbitux (including pictures). You might get a laugh on the third post. Laughing is good. :-) If you read a few posts inbetween these you will see the success I experienced with Erbitux. It basically kicked the crap out of the tumors in my liver, and brought my CEA down to under 1. I've been off it for a while now and the rash is nearly gone. A few blemishes on my body remain but the face is virtually clear!

Mine looked like the other pictures that were shared with you.  I did 17 Erbitux treatments total. The side effects got bad enough that we reduced the dose to 80% and went 2 out of every 3 weeks rather than weekly.  Eyelashes got very long, I got little 'paper cut' like splits in the ends of my fingers, and the toenails on both big toes became discolored.  I think everything they say you can get, I got.  I ended up growing a beard to hide some of the rash but that's probably not an option for you :) Laughing O -well, I guess I had the full experience.  Right now I've been off of it for 3 weeks and the rash is about 95% gone.  My next step in the Big 'C' battle is HIPEC surgery on Dec. 4th and you are suppoesed to be off of Erbitux 4 weeks prior.  Hope the Erbitux does the job for you, and don't worry too much about the rash - it's only skin deep, and we know that everyone involved in this battle is much 'deeper' than just that.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks for sharing!    No, I'm not worried about it. I did get all on nose, forehead, around mouth.    They appear to be drying, so I stopped antibiotic, ONC said no, stay on for now.
