To my knowledge there are no cures without active treatment, however there are various vaccines in clinical trials that hopefully may develop cures. Additionally there is a significant number of indolent prostate cancers that will not progress and cause harm in ones life time, however medical science is not able to positively identify those patients where these cancers will not progress, or determine if a more significant cancer exists in the prostate(although technology is improving) and progress is being made.
THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY---HOPE YOU ARE DOING WELL--APPARENTLY YOUR FATHER WAS CURED BY RADIATION ONLY OR DID HE HAVE HORMONE SHOTS ALSO
I'm VERY HAPPY FOR BOTH OF YOU-- WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY >iS THERE ANYONE WHO WAS CURED BY RADIATION ONLY THUS KEEPING THEIR PROSTRATE---NO SURGERY INVOLVED
My father had radiation only. No surgery and No hormone shots or pills.
The firrst portion was with PROTON at Loma Linda and then towards the end (Don't recall the exact number) They switched over to actually using PHOTON instaed of Proton.
THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY___I WISH THE BEST FOR YOU & YOUR FATHER. WHAT I WAS TRYING TO ASK IS THERE ANYONE KNOWN TO BE CURED WITHOUT THE REMOVAL OF THE PROSTRATE----sorry for any confusion

If you follow the newsletter called the Fellowship of the Balloon from Loma Linda U in CA there are a lot of positive stories of life after treatment. One man even told how he fathered a child after proton treatment. Surgery certainly isn't the only option as Lew's post shows.

I guess it depends on your definition of 'retained the prostate'.
My Dad was gleason 6 and treated with PROTON at Loma Linda in 1997. He is 81 now and still has a prostate in his body but its been radiated.
His PSA in Aug. 2013 registered as .01 so is considered Cured.
