How many of you used Birth control pills or hormone replacemnt therapy?

I always wondered how much birth control pills contributed to my cancer?

    I was on birth control pills

    I was on birth control pills for between 3 and 4 yrs total.  After 2nd Son was born due to the issues I had with the 2 C-sections, we weere advised that it would not be a good idea for any more pregnancies so Hubby had a vascectomy.

    I went through menopause when I was 44 with none of the 'usual' problems at all.  About 7 yrs later my PA wanted me to try HRT because I have a large family history of osteoporosis.  So I tried HRT for about 3 months and felt horrible on it so stopped.  I believe that it is a culmination of all my life that caused me to develope IBC.  I had radiatin to my throat at 18 mths, lived near above ground nuclear testing in the early '50's, grew up on or near military bases,, was Army and married to a USN guy for 19 1/2 of his 20 yrs AD so on/around air Navy bases.  I was for years a Hairdrrresser, an upholstery and did screen printing.  I live near an USAF base and am under the flight path.  There is natural radiation in our soil in this area.  So I believe that the culmination of my life is why IBC decided to ttack.

    Have never doubted I have HRT induced BC
    I questioned BC Pills when they started giving them to me as a teen to slow blood flow. Back in the day, Ortho Novum dose I was on was .5 and sometimes they would have me take 2 - 3 to slow the bleeding. This went on for years, I had endometriosis and it took over 2 years and multiple surgeries to get pregnant. Had a hysterectomy at 31. Was put on Hormones to stop bleeding b4 the surgery for 6 months, then HRT after for osteoporosis. I questioned all of this all the way through. Was on Premarin along woth estrogen shots.nQuestioned breast cancer as reports were starting to come out about he link. Would get awful headaches on Premarin.
    Was sent to a menopause clinic and they determined I was allergic to it. Took me off it, put me on estrace and continued with estrogen shots as blood fasting tests showed my body was still not absorbing the estrogen . Finally I just quit all of it and felt so much better. But I kept reading about the link. At 44 I found out tat I had bc, there was nondoubt that it was HRT induced.
    With the first bout of bc, even after finishing treatment, I never felt done with this. When I was diagnosed with mets at 52, I was sad but not surprised.
    My tumors have been resistant and followed the path that I had read with the hrt induced bc reports that came out a couple of months after my mets diagnosis. The tumors have been resistant to treatment/chemo. My onco was not surprised when I was diagnosed wih mets as we had discussed so many times my chances of a recurrance knowing what most likely caused it.

    I took birth control pills

    I took birth control pills for many years.  Lots of data has come out now, that they could possibly have something to do with bc.  I am sure they do as they have a lot of estrogen in them.

    I wouldn't take them now no matter what.

    Wow Carole!

    You certainly had lots of hrt! 

    I took birth control pills as a young woman - off and on (time out for pregnancies) for 12 years.  Back in the day we did indeed have higher doses of estrogen in bc pills.  Then I had my tubes tied and went merrily along my way.  In my late 40's I asked about hrt because at the time it was felt to provide protection from cardiovascular disease and I have a strong family history - and I was sick of having periods.  My primary care physician happily gave me a prescription for continuous Prempro (no withdrawal so no periods) and I took it for at least 5 years.  I started having some spotting and my gynecologist took me off hrt - because the news at the tme was not so positive about putting women on hrt just because.  I continued to have periods until I was 57 and was sure I'd have to be buried with a box of tampons.

    All in all I had a pretty long lifetime exposure to estrogen, both synthetic and natural.  I've also struggled with my weight for many years and probably continue to produce estrogen like stuff in fat cells even after menopause.  And I was diagnosed with two cancers (breast and endometrial), both of which are estrogen receptor positive. 

    The incidence of breast cancer has gone down since they stopped giving everyone hrt.  I, too, am convinced it played a part in my cancers.

    i didnt  take brith control

    i didnt  take brith control pills too often during my reprodutive yrs but did off and on  had hysterectomy tho at 33 and was on premairn and progetirne(?) for 20 yrs after that when my new dr decided i shouldn't take them anymore  cause they cause cancer  i told him i didnt  have a uters anymore and was told not to worry about it causing cancer....he looked straight at me said you still have breasts   you can get it there and sure enough withine a yr i had breast cancer  so yes  i think it does tooo
