Trip to Sloan Kettering

Hi Dear Pink Ladies

Not sure if I posted about this all important appointment to Sloan Kettering. SO here's what I was told.

The doctor still believes that the wait and watch approach is the best move for now. He said that the largest of the nodules are 8mm and 9mm but still under the size of 1cm. A biopsy is easier when the size is at least 1cm. He did have concerns for the 2 new masses that came from nowhere since the scan last month. He didn't venture to tell me what he thinks these masses are. I was told that it could be radiation induced but he didn't sound like that is what he is really thinking. While I was there, he decided to send me to the pulmonary department for a breathing test. The tech believed everything looked good but I have to wait for the results to be seen by a specialist.

So I am stuck on the roller coaster ride for at least another month. Going to MSKCC was the best move I've made since being diagnosed. I feel empowered. SO much so, that I changed/fired my oncologist. This new MO is at a different facility that is quite reputable. My first appointment with the new MO is in a couple of weeks. (Oh..BTW...the doctor I saw at Sloan Kettering is a thoracic surgeon)

July is going to be a whirlwind of appointments. My first post op mammo happens. I go back to the breast surgeon. I see my new MO. I have blood work for my thyroid problems and diabetes. I go back to the endocrinologist. I am dizzy just writing that. Then, I have the next CT scan. With all of this, comes more news.

I am hoping I get great news back.

OK ... just wanted to update you all. I pray that everyone is enjoying the early part of summer. And I thank you all for always showing so much compassion and understanding.

Love to you all

xoxo
Mary

I'm glad things are looking better for you. It's good that you have new input about what is going on because your doctor just wasn't taking care of you.

    HUGS!!!

... Positive information from Sloan. You are on the
fast track to getting things taken care of -- and results! Now that is what you've
been looking for, and not getting.

I am hoping that journey provides you with clear, concise information - a solid
game plan - along with successful results.

You have been thru the 'ringer', so take a few minutes to regroup -- gain your
strength and prepare for the upcoming world wind of procedures, tests and
    endless doctor appointments.

Continued prayers for you, Ms. Gebby.

Strength, Courage and HOPE for a Cure.

    Waiting...
    Hi Mary—

We all know the wait in probably the worst part of all of this. It’s more relaxing when we have a plan. But if the Dr. recommends we wait, for the better, then we do. I go to Sloan myself – I live in NYC – are you at the NYC location, NJ or CA? I’m just curious, perhaps we should meet up for lunch or something. It would be nice.

I’m happy you feel more comfortable with your new team. Sloan is very good with their patients (although I’m not too happy with my Onco).

Time will go really fast and you’ll get your results/plan before you know. We’ll be praying for good results and fast recovery.

    Yes I am feeling
I am more in control. I saw the surgeon at Rockefeller Pavillio on E 53rd St (11th floor). I wanted to see if I could get an MO in NJ but I really didn't see one that had a specialty with breast cancer. I would have to go to NYC for appointments. It's really not what I want to do. The pulmonary specialist is an hour plus from where I live, so I decided to stick closer to home. I found a great one at the hospital I've been getting all my care at. Every doctor I've been to at this hospital has been wonderful and caring. SO I expect the same from this specialist.

I go back to see the surgeon towards the of August. But anytime before that appointment would be good to visit with you. How wonderful it is to have sisters so close by.

    I love your spirit
You know, getting mad was what I needed. Put a fire under this one's **** and things start happening. I am looking forward to meeting my new oncologist. I have a renewed sense of positive energy within and I know I will find the answers I so desperately need.

Thanks for keeping me in your prayers. I've been doing the same for all of the pink sisters and brothers I've come to know on this board.

I wish we could all just put this disease behind us and never think about it again. When I finished active treatment (in March) the only thought I had was "I am never looking back. It's done. I'm done" Boy, was I hit in the head with a brick! There was no way I could've prepared for the after shock. Who would think that "the end" of a chapter has more chapters??? When I am through with this next chapter, I will quietly close the book but a bookmark will remain just in case I have to pick up the book again.

Where do you live Rebecca? I am on the east coast (NJ). It would be so nice to meet you in person.

In the meantime ... May the force be with you.

    You Go Girl!
    Mary,

Glad to hear you have taken control of your own health and made these decisions which are best for you. I always say we are our own best advocate. I sometimes tell the doctors what I want to do or need. I know my body better than they do any day of the week. Hoping your new results are good too. Praying for you. Way to go girlfriend!

Terry ... haven't seen you on here in a bit. How are you doing?

I am hoping the new results will bring smiles. Like Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer sang "Enough is enough is enough...No More Tears". That's what I wish for us all.

I live in beautiful (cough) Cleveland, Ohio
But we can have our cyber coffee any day! I am with you in spirit. You sound so much better. I went out of network with my insurance company to go to this area's best hospital and surgeon. And I did it because I feel so peaceful there. I feel like even if they couldn't help me that they would do the best that was humanly possible. And when you posted before I felt so anxious to get you out of the other place. But our prayers moved you my sister. And it has given me so much joy!

Love and hugs (and creamer) coming at ya!
