    Dear Jackie
Welcome to the board. Having moved your message to its own thread it will get you noticed more easily and perhaps give you more answers.

First off, for many facing the idea of an ostomy I recommend the following book:

The Ostomy Book: Living Comfortably with Colostomies, Ileostomies, and Urostomies by
Barbara Dorr Mullen and Kerry Anne McGinn RN BSN OCN

The authors are mother/daughter with mother having the ostomy and daughter being an ostomy nurse. This book deals with the mechanics of living with an ostomy as well as the emotional and physical concerns.

I have had my colostomy for 2 years. While the surgery took some recovery time, there has been no pain following healing.

Living with an ostomy can be far easier and more liberating if you have had serious difficulties with elimination issues.

Living with an ostomy does not mean having to limit your living and living well.

Hope this helps. Am sure others will chime in as well.
