Hi everyone, I haven't been on here in awhile but do read your posts from time to time. I am a 7 year survivor of stage 3 bc and my husband is currently in treatment for stage 4 colon cancer. I am always amazed at how courgeous you all are and so uplifting. I wish I know about this board when I was undergoing treatment. I was wondering if anyone has had breast cancer spread to their esophagus. A friend of mine is currently fighting for her life and was told she had 6 months to live. She initially had mets to her lungs and was put on a trial which worked but now she has cancer in her esophagus. She is being treated at MD Anderson. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks, Teri

    I do not know of any Sister in PINK that has had bc spread into the esophagus -- however,
    maybe someone here on our site will chime in with information for you. However, I do
    know of sever Sisters that have gone to MD Anderson, and from what I remember hearing,
    or reading is that it is a magnificent medical facility.

    Also, as you log in here on ACS .. under the discussion boards there is a site dealing
    with esophagus cancer. You may want to explore that site - perhaps there is additional
    information, and help.

    First let me say how sorry I am for you, your husband and your friend. I don't know anything about cancer to the esophagus, but, MD Anderson is a wonderful facility that is on the cutting edge, so, your friend is in good hands.

    My husband was diagnosed
    My husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Esophageal Cancer last June and, after a routine mammogram, I was diagnosed with triple negative IDC BC in late December. As luck (?) would have it, we are both starting on Taxol Tuesday. I have never heard of EC metastasizing from somewhere else. My husband was on Oxaliplatin and Xeloda (oral 5FU) for 9 cycles from July until just before Christmas. He had a good response and tolerated it well. We were even able to take a short break the end of Oct/first of Nov and go on a cruise that was very port intensive. Do NOT read the statistics on EC and do not believe anyone's predictions on how long someone has. Even tho' they may think so, they are NOT God. As someone mentioned there is a wonderful, caring EC group on CSN. While they don't "sugar coat" and can seem pretty negative about Stage IV EC, they are very caring people who have great experience on the front lines in real time with EC (same as here with BC). Another good site with some long time survivors in the ACOR EC list serve.
    I think I will post a general message on here about EC since April is Esophageal Cancer Awareness month. I just can't emphasize enough that if you or anyone you care about suffers from heartburn or acid reflux, you should see your doctor and INSIST on having an endoscopy done.

    Like the others, I question whether this is mets or a new primary cancer? Did she get path report on the esophageal cancer? Breast cancer tends to mets to bone, liver and brain--although it is possible for it to mets anywhere.

    Also, it has been reported that some of the treatments for breast cancer may increase the risk of esophageal cancer (I am thinking primarily of the oral bisphosphonates). This would be a new primary though and not a mets.
